Hello All,

I've just joined and i'm browsing around it's a bit overwhelming at the moment though I am very exited to be part of this wonderful website.

I've read the handbook but still confused I don't know where to download photos to restored, I see there are 4 galleries but when I tried to download a photo it says I have to register again though I have already registered do I have to re-registered for downloading photo from the galleries?

I am looking forward to start restoring photos and helping people.

Helen,

Don't worry, I have been a member for a few years and I still get confused.

What you do is (1) log into Photoshelter, (2) go to the photo you wish to restore, (3) leave a comment, and (4) then the distributor (the person whose gallery you are in) will send you an email with a link to the photo in Photoshelter.  It should be pretty straight forward to download from the Photoshelter site.   Note: you have to sign up with Photoshelter.  It's free. You also have then wait for the email from the distributor before you get to download the file.

I hope this helps.  :)  I must say you are a brave person to take on one of the restorations we have out there.  Most of photos I have seen on there, are extremely difficult.  Oh don't worry we should be getting a lot more after the Joplin, MO copy run.  Good luck.

Hi Helen, this thread should help you negotiate the steps to get your first photo.

Hi PIERCED6966,

As of October 1, 2011, we've started a new process with our new volunteers. The hope is to reduce the confusion they have when we send them all the information they need. We used to send out a Welcome letter with information about the Forum, Photoshelter, selecting photos, and uploading them, all at once. That often resulted in people getting confused about selecting photos on Photoshelter.

Now we send out a Welcome letter and include their first photo to restore. We register them on the Forum so they can get acquainted and ask questions if they need help with the restoration. After they finish their first photo and are more comfortable with communicating on the Forum, we register them in Photoshelter and send instructions on how to comment on a photo so the distributor can send them an invitation to download it.

After they've had a little time to digest the download instructions we follow through with instructions on uploading back to Photoshelter.

We hope this process will reduce the initial confusion most of the volunteers experience when getting started. Be sure to post your questions if you're still confused!
