I'm in complete agreement about weather cycles. The photo of the "Dust Bowl years were more of a testament to poor farming practices during that time. After that, hedge trees were planted to break up acres of plowed up farm land and other preventative measures were taken. While I do believe that we have always experienced extreme water swings; I also believe in global warming and it means more than having periods of high temperatures and cycles in the weather.

The 2nd link shows a graph that is charted starting from 1880. Both links show the results of how too much carbon released in the atmosphere acts like a blanket that keeps the gasses from escaping and the end result being "global warming."
