Title: How do I make a transparent layer in Photoshop CS2?
Post by: Sharon on January 28, 2007, 08:29:15 PM
I was trying out Vikki's tutorial on how to utilize a good channel within an image.  The optional part of her tutorial states you could also add a transparent layer with it's Opacity set to Color.

How do I make a transparent layer?

Not sure if I'm correct, but in CS2, just click on the new layer button at the bottom of the layers palette (2nd from the right, next to the garbage pail).  This gives you a new layer in transparency mode, and you can then click on the blending mode (automatically set to normal and sitting to the left of opacity and above your layers) and change it to "color", which is at the bottom of the blending modes.

The transparency mode gives you a layer in a gray and white checkered pattern.

I hope this helps.
