Title: how do you....
Post by: kjohnson on January 16, 2007, 04:00:59 PM
How do you get under the "stuff" ? I've completed restoring much the image except for the more difficult spot(s) on his head, hair, pants & oh no those shoes & that floor. I've poked around the channels, but no miracles for me there. Thanks

You done a pretty good job so far.

A lot of the 'getting under the stuff' is guess work and following one shadow to another, one line to another . Add a layer and draw where you think the lines should go if need be. I would copy his one leg over to the other and make it look 'right' if you know what I mean. Look for portrait photos on the net of a similar subject and get your ideas from them. Clone the hair down following what you think could be his hair line, burn in darker bits and smudge them at 75% opacity to pull them in the direction you think they should go...curls or straight hair...then take a softer brush to blend them in nicely.

Edit: A lot of photos come together just by careful cloning at 50% (over and over til it looks right if need be), burning and dodging.
