Hair on collar detail

This is Len's work in progress. He needs suggestions for repairing the gray streaks across the white collar where they go through her hair. I'm not very good at that, so I'm hoping someone can offer suggestions so we can bot learn how.

Great tip, Tori.

I worked this a bit differently than Tori, but don't think I got better results.

I created a new layer and repaired the collar, getting rid of the stray strands
of hair that overlapped.

I then took two sections of her existing hair, one from the upper right (just
beneath her hat) and another from the middle left (near the tassel). With
each of these two sections on their own layers, I rotated/transformed them
to fit the space where her hair lies against her collar.  I adjusted the curves
and levels on both layers so they matched the rest of her hair in this area.

Using layer masks on both hair samples, and the chalk and oil brushes, I blended
the new hair samples into where they lay against the new collar.

I then changed the opacity on the hair samples to allow a bit of the white collar
to show through trying to give them a feeling of depth.

I attempted to repair her face a bit also.  Her face in your WIP seemed almost
overworked.  I also got a black cap/gown instead of a blue one.

What a beautiful young lady!

Shadows and highlights.  This one has come along beautifully.

A couple of observations:

The horizontal streaks between the tassel and the cap look like damage to me.  It appears from the original that that area should just be a lighter part of the gradient to match the right side.

Also, it appears to me that the background is all blues, and the browns are damage.  I think a background without the brown would be much more attractive and true to the original.

That said, it's a gorgeous restoration.  Great job.
