Just thought I'd post this and see if anyone has an easier way of fixing the curtains besides cloning, healing, and copy/paste.  Didn't think it was going to be such a challenge.   Would really appreciate any tips/hints.
Thanks,
Mary

Well if you have to, you can use photoshop to make them.   Several examples of how are on you tube.  Here is one.

The author here does not appear to be very old but the idea is pretty good.

You could look at this as an exercise to improve your cloning/healing muscles :)

The curtains in that tutorial don't look anything like these and while they might be fine for some purposes, I don't think it'd be any more acceptable that grabbing a curtain image from somewhere and making a composite. I think trying to mix fake curtains with these would be much more work than cloning.

You can probably deal with the color differences via an adjustment layer or two versus cloning. So that just leaves the parts with visible damage to work on.

Hi Mary.. you could grabe a patch or two of good curtain and cover you damage or clone and heal.. I find that using a "blur" "motion blur" straight up and down - then add about 4.5 noise - then about 1 px gaussian blur covers a lot of sins...do that after you've done your healing and cloning. Good luck.. you've got this

Thanks for the tip Phil.  There is another link below the Youtube video where they use gradients to make curtains, looks pretty good.

Lynn's tip is a good one even though you still have to clone, heal and patch, and Phil's video tutorial is a good one to put in your bag of tricks. You always do beautiful work Mary so look forward to seeing your WIP. Good luck!

I look forward to seeing the outcome.  I have faith!!

Thanks a lot for all the tips!  If I want the curtains to look like they actually are I guess healing and cloning is the way to go.  I will, however,  grab some "good" curtain and use Lynn's idea and maybe my attempts won't look so bad.  Thanks again.

Candice

Have you thought about making your own 'patch'?  I often copy an area, duplicate that area (several times if needed) and place it under the area you want to correct.

Mary I "image - dublicate image" with no layers then you have a good clean source (up to date with your work so far) to grab some "good" curtain from.. just copy and paste it on and work from there..keep it hanging around for bits and pieces you want to patch with updating it with a new duplicate image as your work improves.. then chuck em away... :)

Curtains are finished.  They look pretty good.  I decided not to keep them exactly like the original and didn't line up with a few pleats here and there.  Hopefully my sweet distributor won't mind.  Used copy and patch.
Thanks for all your help.  I'll post when I think I'm close to the finish so I can get more eyes.

Me again.  Could someone give me some eyes on the handsome fella's jacket?  Red channel is pretty good.  I can't tell whether he's wearing a vest or not.
I'll post the original again.
Thanks,
Mary

Mary, I would say not since he is wearing a tux or a suit. I think maybe the collar a silk or velvet texture. Don't know if there are other photos of this couple in the distributor's gallery?

I checked the family photos and a vest is visible, the lapel is shiny fabric as well.
