The problem I am seeking help on is the damage to the man's tux.  I have checked the various RGB channels for something clean, and also converted to LAB using the luminosity channel which is also not very clean.  Is there anything other than cloning or patch tool that I can try (details please)?

Also, this is my first "moderately" damaged photo.  Any other comments regarding other aspects of the restoration would also be greatly appreciated.

Great repair job Brian!

It is always a good idea to do levels and curves correction before you do damage control, that way any possible mismatches from repairs won't show.

You already said it:  cloning and healing will fix the tux.  You will find after you have done the levels and curves that there are few color blotches that will need to be painted over on a color layer.  It is best sample frequently from nearby good color.

One thing jumped out at me and that was the shape of the groom's head, I think it may have been a little wider on the left side?
