Hi Kate,

What a neat photo this is! I know the sky on this is piratically white which maybe because it was sunny or overcast day and makes for not as a dramatic sky as what you have. Because we want to restore and not retouch; it would be better to go with the original. Some of our photos may have so much of the background missing that we do have to guess what was there. Yours looks good on the soldier, but looks like a lot of fuzz around top of jeep window. I did a quickie and I think yours looks more dramatic, here is how I see it.

Please make a copy of your original and before you upload to the forum, take all of the personal information from the file. In PhotoShop, go up to File>File Info and remove the person's contact information. Another way is to create a new file and drop your restore in on that. Keep your original with all information listed intact when you upload back to PhotoShelter. Thanks.

Great job!

A quick way to remove the File info is to do a 'Save for Web'.  Here's my go using a Levels adjustment layer with Output levels of 8 and 244, and a B&W adjustment layer moving the yellow slider to -27 and the red slider to -85. I also applied a slight noise filter.

What I did was to  untick the info I don't want showing that way I don't have to think about it again.

I see where you found the clouds. When I made 7 duplicate layers and set the blend mode of alll to 'Multiply' I got a similar effect, but I think what was magnified was mostly damage.

Personally, I like what you've done with the sky - a bit of gradient keeps it from being so flat without introducing something foreign. Nice!

Another great free plugin is Mura Meisters Cloud. http://www.lundentreux.info/infographie/filtres/mmCloud22.zip

You can use it with PS and customise hundreds of cloud effects from very subtle to dramatic. It has monochrome cloud settings that you can change the colours it picks to tone down the effects for B&W photos.

Kate, it's looking good!

Tess, what are you trying to do, get her to do some more different clouds?  ;D

its all about the confusion...lol
put the clouds in ----- take the clouds out....HA
No I think she was just giving me a new filter to go with the brushes I was using for the clouds...
I think that any way.
I am ready to upload so if clouds are wanted let me know!!  :funny:

Just installed the mmcloud  effect. Nifty! But I think your gradient is probably truer to the original.
