This is listed as 4x6 but appears to be a 5x7 with a title below. The blue and yellow channels show only part of the writing and I don't think I will be able to recover enough to repair it.

Can anyone work any magic?

If not I will crop to 4x6, leaving the title off and clipping off a small amount of the damaged area on the left and convert to 300dpi.

Athol. cropping seems fine to me, the text is illegible.
(you make it sound like I said to you "cropping is OK but leave the guy's head in"  ::))
