I have a question for the PS experts, I am presently working on an image, it has about 10 layers and is about 108 MB, it is making heavy going of it as I am running PS -CS2 with only 256MB RAM.

That is not the problem, I mention it just in case its pertinent, the problem is - no matter what I choose as a background or foreground colour, any brush or tool I use paints GREEN, even the burn tool burns green. It is only in this image that it happens - if I create a new layer at the top of the layer stack I can fill it with any colour, as soon as I move it down the stack the fill colour turns to green - There is some green cast in the image and I am wondering if it has picked that up, but I can find nothings in any setting that will get rid of it.

Hoping that someone has an answer, as it is driving me spare, any help would be greatly appreciated.

This might not be why, and if you've already checked this just ignore me :).
In you channels palette make sure you're not just working on one channel. I was testing things to see what it would do. If you are working in RGB and just have the green channel selected it will fill, paint etc green.  Hope that maybe fixes your problem.

Hi Max

The channel issue sounds valid to me, but if that's not it, do you have an adjustment layer anywhere that might be affecting the rest of the image?  I found that since I'm working on an ancient G3 in PS7 with little ram, I have spells where my adjustment layers cause mysterious things to happen to the layers below.  Doesn't happen at work, where I have all the bells & whistles -- only at home.

I hope you got it figured out.  The restorations are challenge enough without your software going bananas! Just had another thought...  Do you have layer effects set on any of your layers?

Best wishes!

Could you possibly have "Quick Mask" on?

Hi,

Thank you all for your help, you were right glennab, I had to kill every adjustment layer to cure the problem, I can tell you it was really beginning to get up my nose, I don't mind green - but in its place.

Well back to the sweat shop, having quite a tussle with my second image, will post a few pic when I get it licked into a bit better shape, ( hopefully that will be sooner now I have the prob sorted ) and get your input on them.

Thanks again, don't know what I would do without your help.

Hi Max

I'm so glad I could help.  I know the frustration of having weird things happen. Sometimes makes me crazy!

Good luck on your next restoration and have a great week!
