Any suggestion as why this is in purple color and what I should do about it?

Shujen,

I wondered the same thing and figured it must have been a chemical reaction to the salt water. I'm fairly certain this was a black and white in the beginning.

'Tis perplexing. I've seen color prints fade to purple before, but not black and white. Any silver salts that are purple (or refract purple)? Some purple algae or fungi that eat emulsion? Someone out there whose chemistry is more recent than mine must know. So much for the why. For the what to do about it, I'd assume it was black and white and proceed from there.

Shujen, it may be a color photo after all.  I did a levels and upped the saturation some and this is what I got.
(It is probably better to restore it in black and white anyway, almost all color has gone.)
