Title: Blue
Post by: Shadow on October 18, 2022, 11:26:42 AM
Hey gang. Any suggestions on how to reduce the blue in this image? Used the Threshold layer to pick the white and black points and then set one on the shirt and his forehead just to see where things stood. Have tried a couple different things with poor results. Do you think his shirt is white and the blue is damage?  As you can see, I am stumbling around in the dark.  ;)  Appreciate any and all tips!

In photoshop, try color balance.

Morning Kiska. Tried color balance and couldn't seem to get it right. Then I tried Hue/Sat (reducing cyan) and got this result which led me to wonder what his suit and shirt color are. Skin tones still have a blue cast but the rest of the image improves. Any thoughts?

Hi Shadow I clicked a white spot on the table in the right foreground and the man's shirt and came up with very close numbers.  So I would guess the mans shirt is white.

Hi Shadow.. I came up with this.. reduced the blue to nothing in hue/sat then reduced the cyan to nothing as well.. I think all the blue is damage run off from elsewhere...you'd have to paint back in the vest and tie..Just a thought...also paint back in some color on her forehead using "color" mode.. see if that helps.

Many thanks gang!  :)    How's this look on your screens? (Used the lady's forehead for the color reading.)

Looking good Shadow on my tiny screen  (puter problem)
Ladies face could maybe use a tad more color and I'm sure you have yet to mask back in his tie and waistcoat..👍👍

Shadow, great job! I was thinking it needed to show more blue than gray, and then your last post did that.  That was a real trip color wise.

Shadow, I sent off a question of the guy's suit a couple of days ago, and just now got this from the owner.
QuoteSo sorry Mrs. Margie just seeing this now. His suit was a light gray.
So it looks like Lynn's comes closer to the the suit being gray. I don't understand how the suit got so blue since there is nothing else in the photo that would have bled into it.

I think the bright incandescent lamps on the top threw the white balance way off in the original photo. Your color adjustments look great. I would probably focus on removing the blue tint on the faces.

Many thanks gang! What a doozie. See what you think of this. Not sure if the faces are alright. Any thoughts on his ring? Think its more of the mysterious blue?  :P

Shadow looking really good.. I think the ring must be gold.. it's on his wedding finger.. can't see it being blue.  On my screen the skin tones are are little cool, not sure how you'd fix that, maybe color balance? just for the skin tones?

Thanks Lynn. Used your trick from way back when and sampled color from her left side (looking at the pic) and then put that on another layer set to color mode, reduced the opacity and then masked it in where the color seemed to be gone from her face. Was afraid to do to much. Will go back and see about warming them both up a bit. Agree about the ring.

Looking better all the time!
What if you try to bring in the Level sliders in R, G and B.  Then Lower Vibrance a tad and add a layer set to color and paint over the blueish spots in the faces.

(it looks like I overdid the Levels a bit  :))

edit:  corrected many typos

Hannie, I liked what you did. Am a bit rusty, or maybe just slow  ::)  Couldn't quite duplicate what you did so tried this way. The numbers are good but it just looks off to me. Any thoughts gang? Thanks

Hi Shadow .. looking better but I know what you mean by "off"... I tried color balance increasing the yellow and lessening the magenta to try to warm the faces a bit.. I think you may have to disregard the numbers and go with your instincts on this one.. (coming from the mad "what numbers" restorer). I think you are nearly there..

Back again.  :)  Thanks Lynn. Tried Hannie's Vibrance adjustment tip again. Thanks again Hannie!) Think I forgot to change the layer mode color last time.  Looks better on my screen. First one has Vibrance set at 52% and the next one reduced to 15%.  Increase. Decrease?  ::)  Thanks!

On my screen decrease looks better.. I'm still seeing a tad too much magenta in the skin.. I'm wondering if it's my screen ... my monitor is not calibrated..does it need a bit more yellow? don't know it's a tough one.. you're almost there, I can feel it!! Take it back, it's the reds that I'm seeing not the magentas...
