Title: Margie's Forum - Little Girl in Texas
Post by: Lynnya on October 20, 2016, 10:42:42 AM
Hi All,

chose this image as there really arn't any left lol - I'm smugly thinking "this should be easy"... I should learn never to think that

Here is the original image

here is mu WIP before repairs..

this is my final - I did put a very very light blue filter on it at the end which I can remove if needed to bring it more to the original color.

Hi Lynn, I really do think this is an easy photo to restore. I love seeing your WIP, but wonder about one set of Levels, Curves, and then a merge visible followed again by the same thing with a Channel Mixer thrown in?  This is a B/W photo that was shot by a camera in sRGB mode and we keep it in that mode, because when it goes to printing we can't pull out those change to a B/W mode. I have no problem with the Curves and Levels mode, but after that I would do a Black & White Adjustment layer that still keeps it in sRGB. I'm not really sure why you would want a Channel Mixer because you are not working in color. I would also be careful that where something is in the shadow such as the Texas statue, it can have those shadows and does not need to be lightened.

Nice job, but sometimes what looks easy really is.  ;)

Good point... I do better with terrible messes... if they are too easy I get suspicious... I'll fix it  ::)  I always think "there must be more to do than this"....I could have colored it and then made it back into black and white lol

Very good, but I wouldn't use a blue filter if it is going to give it that cast.  I'm proud of you and your showing restraint. Perhaps the easy ones just don't have enough things wrong.  ;D
