This is one of the 2 moderate photos I've done for OPR so far and the one I was happiest with the results... :)

Hehe very nice, it doesnt even look like the image has been re-touched - im impressed and what a funny face the baby is pulling lol
Thanks Dave... I do hope the proud parents are happy with the results... ;)
WOW!....very nice. I like the addition of the curtain/drape in the background. The whole photo looks completely natural. I would be very pleased to receive this back.
Thank you Betty for your kind reply.. You made this old fella feel pretty good.. :)

Robert
I wont make 2 dumbass comments in a row, so ill stick to saying great work! ;)
Thanks Risici and I never felt your comments on my other photo were as you say, "dumbass"...
I really appreciated what you wrote...
Thanks again... :)
Robert
I am blown away by this effort! You have some serious skill my friend....
Oh wow you did an amazing job on this. :)
Beautiful. Will the owners of the photo be pleased? They'll be thrilled.
Thank you very much for your kind words Quoin, Veronica and Idyllopus... :)
Now we just need some new pictures to work on.. tehe
Crits and helpful suggestions welcomed
Here's my last photo received (From the difficult section).. I've put in well over a week on this so far, between an hour to 3 hours a day... lol
I haven't got a calibrated monitor, so there could be some problems I can't see... (Some I still can also.. )

 Keep up the great work!!
Hi Robert
The young woman looks wonderful, but I do have a question. Is the white on her sleves in the original possibly a lace cover of some sort? What makes me think so is that there's a pattern in the white, and both sleeves appear to have white "cuffs," so it doesn't look as random as damage would. Something to think about.
Also in your group photo, I think the woman standing at the far right has dark hair, not gray. And the younger man next to her could probably use a little more work. His face looks rather contrived, and to me his smile looks different in the original.
Enough picking. The rest is a fine clean-up on a tough restoration.
Have a great week!
GG
Hi Robert,
I tend to think she may be wearing a blouse with sleeves longer than those of the tunic, you can see folds in the white material under her right arm and a touch of brown above that could be the end of the tunic sleeve.
It's hard to tell, and you have the hi-res file so I will leave it to you to decide.
Max
Robert,
I too cast my vote on the side of the white portions of her blouse being actually there and not damage. I think the only damage in this (apart from age) is the obvious crayon marks. Remove those and leave everything else and she'll be good to go!
Looking good!
Kurt
Thank you all for your crits... :) I'm trying to determin where the white of the blouse should be..
I've made crops of the left and right arms and added arrows to where I think might be blouse..
Does that look about right??

PS. Glenna, the group photo was sent home way back around the end of July last year... lol
I believe I had done a bit more work to it than what is showing in the previous post, before it
was sent home... Thank you and everyone for helping me out with the latest...
Hi Robert -- Well, that's embarassing. Talk about being behind the times! It's 'cause I'm old. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it!
GG
No need to be embarrassed Glenna... Besides, they say we're only as old as we feel... lol
I'm 39 and holding and as my nephew tells me, with 18 years of experience... lol
Birth date.. Feb. 20th 1950 LOL
Hey Robert
I'm only 30 in my mind, and I'm proud to have made it to 61, but the brain fades make me crazy! I've begged my husband to PLEASE come visit me in the nursing home!
GG
I think that you've got the sleeve edges marked... tough to see with those whites, huh? She's looking terrific!
Laughing about the age discussion. My 6 year old asked me how old I was a couple of days ago--before answering him, I told him to take a guess.. (I should know better!) He thought for a minute or so, and with utmost seriousness said, "around 104..." (I'm in my 40's!) AND, he didn't believe me when I told him my real age!
Kerry -- that's a riot. Kids are so great. One of my sales manager's kids asked me how old I am, and I told him straight-faced that I'm 150. He didn't miss a beat -- all he said was "Wow! You're older than my dad!" You've gotta love 'em.
Glenna
OK, I've reworked her right arm... Is it looking ok??
Looking great!! :O)
Thanks Candy... I guess I'd best get that other arm done... :)
But, it's going to have to wait until tomorrow.. 5am comes too early... lol
Hi Robert
She looks great! Did you decide to leave off the "lace" or whatever it is on her sleeves? I wish I could figure out exactly what that is. It looks like white eyelet fabric sewn to the sleeves, but I've never seen an arrangement like that.
I know what you mean about those early mornings! Awfully difficult to get up and crawl off to work!
Glenna
Hi Robert,
You've done a really nice job on this. She looks great. What have you decided on the white on her sleeves? It is kind of hard to tell if it's lace or damage.
Sharing my own "child" story, we have guests this week, including a 6 year old. Having lost my 18 year old cat a week ago today, I've cried quite a bit this week, and my 6 year old guest so kindly told me that I had bags under my eyes! Fortunately, I could laugh at it. "From the mouths of babes!"
My condolences on the loss of your cat, Christine.
My cat is about that age and I know it's going to break my heart when she goes. After 18 years, that cat is more a part of my family than most of my actual relatives. :)
Oh Chris - bless that wonderful child for making you laugh! They are so honest and real! Sometimes I think it would be awesome to take a day off from adulthood and be a child again. Say the first thing that comes to mind, cry at the top of my lungs no matter where I am when I get cranky or frustrated, make gawdawful messes without worrying about the clean-up, look at everything with fresh eyes. How fun that would be! I doubt anyone else would enjoy watching an old woman regress for fun, but darn it sounds good after a tough week at work and late nights trying to make my restoration look worth posting! Keep an eye on You-Tube just in case I can't resist!
Thinking of you every day. Huge Hugs!
Glenna
Z: As I told Chris, I have a crew of angel cats to welcome Adja -- and any one else's beloved companion animal who passes. I'm a total cat freak & a rescuer, so I've raised several to old age, and lost others to poisoning, heart attacks, neglect and cruelty by other people. They're on call with all the info (probably on a web site by now) for any newbies who need to know the best places to scratch, sniff, find crunchies and catnip. They've all been very much in the front of my mind since Chris lost her baby. I've cried for Chris and Adja, and shed more tears for my missing loves! I'll hope your 18-year old is one of those incredible cats that live well into their 20s.
I'm so sorry for your loss Christine... :'( I know how much our pets mean to us, as we lost 2 of our dogs within the last 2 years. They become so much a part of the family and it's a difficult trying time when we lose them...
Bless you..
Robert
Glenna & Chris... I've looked over the original, over and over and can't see any sign of lace... It seems to me that the dots that are visable are remnants of the brown of her tunic.
Thank you all for your advice on the restoration it is very much appreciated...
I think what I'm showing you here is the smaller version of the file I'll be sending home... I'll hold off to see if anyone sees anything that can be improved..
I do hope you like the end result?
Regards,
Robert

Max
I've sent this into Photoshelter... I didn't see a folder for you Christine, but left a note that it is for you...
Awaiting your reply, as to whether you received it or not.. :)
Regards,
Robert
PS. Thanks for all the replies folks... :up2:
Hi Robert
She looks absolutely gorgeous. I'm sure you're happy to send her home to her family.
Glenna
Thank you Glenna... I hope she prints up as good as I see on screen... I'm always so unsure, as my montor is not calibrated... Only using Adobe Gamma, I think.. lol
Nothing seems to print on my own printer the same as I see on screen.. :(
Regards,
Robert
Robert, you might want to get your hands on a great book that Christine recommended called Color Confidence by Tim Grey. I just finished it, and it goes into a lot of detail about setting up your monitor and all your peripherals to be color consistent. I'm only using the gamma set-up on my monitor right now, but I don't print a lot of high-end photos or anything that needs fine-tuning. However, I want to start scanning and printing some family photos, so am going to make good use of the book. I add my recommendation to Chris'. Good stuff.
Glenna
Hi Robert,
Yes, I received your uploaded photo, and it looks beautiful!
The book Glenna mentioned isn't exactly a page turner, but it was what it took for me to get accurate results in my printing. Tim Grey works for Microsoft, and is the guru for color print management, among other things. You can also check out his website at www.timgrey.com.
Christine
Hi Christine,
Thank you for your prompt reply and the url... I'll check that out...
Thank you too Glenna... :)
Robert
Robert,
I don't have my monitor calibrated, only Adobe Gamma, if you are using Win XP, I have found that the printing wizard in the photo and fax viewer does a better job of matching the colours on my monitor than PS does.
Max
Yes, I am using Win XP Max... Thanks for the suggestion, I'll have to try that on my next print.. :)
You all are the best, with help, suggestions, etc.. Thanks again... :)
Regards,
Robert
Here's my latest... Before & after... I seem to be somewhat out of practice..
Comments and or crits will be extremely appreciated... :)

Isn't that the most gorgeous photo. Great job Robert, your work doesn't look out of practice to me. :up2:
Hi Robert,
What a great picture and what a beautiful restoration!
The reconstructed background is amazing! :up2:

A marvellous restoration on a striking photo, Robert.
Max
Just beautiful Robert
 Great restore, looks very natual.
I think it's beautiful Robert! I get a smile every time I see this photo. Thanks so much!
Christine
Thank you all for your kind words... I guess, I'm my own worst critic... tehe
Hannie--- I used the patch tool mostly on the background... We all know the problems
that occur using the patch tool, so along the dark areas, I picked a colour then painted
out far enough away so the patch tool wouldn't pick up the dark colours of the child's
hair, etc.. After all the patch tool work, I used a large brush clone set at about 12 for
opacity to blend parts of the background together. Then added some noise and
gaussian blured it...
Thank you folks and Happy Thanksgiving to our friends south of the border...
Regards
Robert
PS. I'll be sending it to you right away Christine.. :)
Thanks Robert for the tip about painting in before using the patch tool, what a great idea!
You're more than welcome Ratz.... :)
Something I hadn't mentioned, was I originally used the clone tool on the bottom
left corner up to the bottom of her night-dress to have an area to patch from...
Hope that helps?
:up2:
Hi Robert,
Thank you for explaining how you did that. It is quite amazing that here was enough intact background left to come to such a great result!
