Hi Lindsey

It appears that Flickr has instructions to embed html for your photo that will allow it to be shown on a page.  I think you have to pick that information up from the actual page on which you have your original, and I gather the code is at the top of the photo.  I use Photobucket, so I'm not sure.  If anyone else uses Flickr, I'm sure they'll jump in and help you.  From what I can see of your restoration, it looks great except for a few shading issues.  But it's easier to tell if we can download the before and after files and take a closer look.

this page has info for finding the barcode for the image you wish to share.
http://www.flickr.com/help/photos/#2265887

excerpt from faq:
Where is the HTML code and photo file link?

The HTML code to embed a photo in a web page that you used to find on the All Sizes page is now only in the Share menu above the photo, to the right of the Actions menu. We now also include BBCode! (standard message board code)

There are a few cases where the code may not be available: 1) If the photo is restricted. 2) If that person has turned off "Share this" or access to original files.

Lindsey, the link is working well.  :up2: I clicked on the image on Flickr & it opened to a much larger image.   It even opens to full screen  :)

Lindsey, I was able to download a nice large image and look it over.  You did a great job on this monster.  I see just a couple of things that bother me.  Mom's face looks obviously copied from one side to the other, especially her eyes. The irises/pupils need to be moved so that they aren't pointed in different directions and the shape and angle need to change, as people's eyes aren't the same on both sides. Also, be sure that the catch lights match. The shading on her face doesn't work from one side to the other.  I'd definitely revisit that.

The only other thing I see is that the dark clothing looks very flat.  That's something I always have problems with, too, so I hope someone else can jump in and give you help with that.  I think you can add some burn to the girl's dress, but when you're dealing with black clothing, I'm not sure what you do.  I'm going to have to monitor what everyone tells you, because I'll be posting my latest on which I have the same issue.

If this is your first restoration, it's awesome.  I'm very impressed.

Cheers

Wonderful work so far.
My only thing that stands out at 1st glance is the mothers left side of her face the shadow line from her smile extends a bit to far up w/o a natural transition to her face. What a job you have on your hands anyway with the face nearly gone, so good job.
The other 2 things is the background seems to bright maybe, mute the tone down a little?
Then the girls fabric on her dress could use just a touch of texture added to the material. I could be completely off on that and please I don't mean to offend you did a lot of work on this.

thank you for your feedback! I'm happy. I'll revisit the woman's face - it was quite the struggle since I pretty well had to recreate it from scratch (pardon the pun). I did do some burn on the girls dress and I used an overlay layer mode but I agree it does need some more dimension.

Thanks again for your feedback.

any one else want to wade in? I could use a tip or two for the dress.

:)

Oh as far as her dress, I would cut that baby out so tight to only select that fabric and try a few ways to see which is best.
I would also make a copy of the layer before moving forward so not to destroy my work so far.
One could try a filter if you use PS and play with the settings.
another would be to have a wool/cotton texture in hand already to use super impost it on a top layer with your selection of the dress completed, invert said selection then cut. I always by the feather at least 1 pixel on selections like this. After you have the texture cut out to size play around with differ layer choices such as overlay actually all of them with different opacity levels too. To me that is the fun part to see so many outcomes from thing.
Also I would try and darken her blue dress more to a richer Navy Blue. However that may happen naturally after your edits.
Hope that was not confusing or helps. I tend to have my own short cuts that are non traditional.

Hi Lindsey,

It would help if you could have your before/after larger.  Right now it's too small to make a call. When I download your image it is 2.667 x 1.067 and that is for the two combined. This photo is an 8 x 10 @ 300 dpi, but to post, I would create a copy and go up to image size and make it 72, 96, or 120 dpi and that would allow for better viewing. I would also post the before/after separately.

From what I can see the woman's eyes do not look the same as in the original. This maybe damage, but it looks like she is looking up and to your right.

At the bottom you can see where the mother's hand is clasped around the boy's arm. I would keep that and not have it filled in solid and would not add a hand to the little boy as I think only the mother's hand is showing.

Very nice on the repair and color correction. Great to see you on the forum.

Lindsey,

I see now that I can enlarge in Flckr---personally I like to have the photo where I can view within the post.

Please change your settings on Flickr so that you do not have the following option:
QuoteLicense

Request to license maggiesty photos via Getty Images

All of OPR's photos belong to the owners and should show that they belong to OPR. It would also be better to not have the family's name listed on the photo and their city (Hummelstown, PA).

I'm sure this was an oversight and you will change as soon as possible.

Thanks,

changes made. Twas an oversight (DEFINITELY not intentional!) and somewhat due to lack of knowledge about Flickr. Abject apologies. :-[
