Sharpening

Sorry to bother you all again, but a quick question.

I recall being instructed not to sharpen the test pic I got when I first joined. I don't know if that applies to the test pic only, or if sharpening is not allowed on any pics. I know it sounds like a foolish question, but I don't want to have to redo pics because I used sharpening or un-sharpening at the beginning of a fix.
