Title: Just wondering about the end color of this restoration
Post by: philbach on January 09, 2012, 08:45:54 AM
Hi. This photo appears be not too difficult to restore, but I was wondering about its color.  To me its  a fairly unusual tint for a B&W photo. Should I leave the color tone in as it is here or convert it to a black and white?  Thanks.

Hi Phil,

Nice photo, I'm sure it was black & white.  I looked at the other photos of this family and they all have this unusual color so I think it is water damage.

(you probably know already, to convert to B/W it is better to use the Channel Mixer Adjustment layer and check the Monochrome box than the Image->Mode->Grayscale-> method)

Thanks, Hannie. I did use a b&w adjustment layer and used the "green channel" filter preset since the green channel seems to have the best definition.
