A visual version of the 'Where we're from' thread, if you will...
OPR Volunteers come here from all over the world... I thought it'd be interesting to have a thread for members to post a picture of what they see when they look out their window from where they sit. Let's try it, it might be fun to take a virtual trip around the globe.
If you don't have a window... get creative!

I grew up in Vestal! Small world, eh? See I told you this might be semi-interesting. ;)
I remember that bridge... holy smokes! I just heard that they just moved the BC Open golf tourney from Binghamton to the Turning Stone Casino up here due to the flood damage...

Small world, indeed! I lived in Saugerties for 6 years during the time they were building that casino!(Edited because I can't read...you're near Utica/Rome...not down in the Hudson Valley. :doh)
Conklin got hit the worst. There are people still not in their homes. I'm sure many of them would be happy for OPR's services, too! Endicott was without power for awhile. Nearly the entire county is still on clean water alert--Binghamton excepted. My neighborhood on Binghamton's South Side lost phone service for a week...some are still out. I'd be volunteering to collect photos here if (OPR takes up the cause) except I'm moving to Baltimore and the movers come Monday.

i have broken my digital camera and waiting for hubby to get his new job before i can replace it, it could not be repaired. so i dug into the archives
Hey, that's a pretty cool. Almost looks like the planet earth...
Here is a shot off the deck from my home office. My backyard neighbor is a farm, then the Boise foothills.

We love it, but mother nature sent some lightning over the weekend that caused 6 fires in the hills. One was just two blocks away. :D First time I thought maybe living in the hills was not such a great idea....lol

I dont have a digitial camera so I cant really take a picture out of my window, but this isnt too far from where I live. Its actually right in the centre of the city - though you wouldnt think it. This is just the stone keep, there is a huge walls that surrounds it too (will see if I can get an arial picture too)

my son would be in heaven there. i am trying to make his room look like that  he wants me to make the walls look like stone. last night i hung his swords and shield up on the wall, he has five that are huge long swords, i put them far away from his bed...don't want to skewer him in the middle of the night. he loves anything medieval. that is so pretty thanks for sharing!

Okay, here's my first try at using Photobucket. I'm still not sure whether this will work. If you can see the photo, this is the view when I TRY to look out my front window. If this works, I'll post a photo of the neat park across the street -- mostly because of the sign that's been posted there since I moved into this house in 1968.
Here's hoping!
GG
Heh, looks like my house whenever I go to the pantry, only the dogs and cats are looking at ME like that! :funny:
The view from my house is boring, but this is the hospital I was born in. It's just a few minutes from me and has been abandoned since 1999. It has long been rumored to be haunted so I got persmission to go up there and take some pictures of the outside. It really is a neat old building and I would love to get permission to go inside for a little ghost hunting!

You professional photographers please overlook my photo taking skills (or lack thereof) :P
Not exactly from my window, the view is the same but the carport gets in the way, its from my gate, the building on the left is the local Hotel, the one on the right is the community hall and in between is the park and children's playground.

All I can say is ONLY IN FLORIDA! This park is across the street from my house, and I've lived here 38 years without spotting ONE alligator! Alligator turtles, ducks, geese, gallinules, but NO GATORS! Thank you very much!

This picture is truely out my window, as it was taken in May from my dining room table! It is of the Absaroka Mountains in Montana, west of Bozeman.

Wow!, Montana is gorgeous....but I can't take the snow. We visited there in June one year, for a wedding, and there was still snow in the mountains. My view is more like the "Don't molest the alligators" pic! I too live in Florida, Royal Palm Beach. My daughter convinced us to move here, with statements like "We never get hurricanes in this part of Florida." Two years ago, our first here, we had three hurricanes go right thru this area. This past year, we had two more! So much for 'never'! At least they were only Cat 2s. Here's a pic of the front street right after a hurricane, and one of my back yard (what there is of it). I really love the weather here, but who knows, I could be needing our restoration services in the near future! 8)

I just moved to Montana the very end of February 2006, after spending 13.5 years in Jacksonville, FL. I went thru a few hurricanes, namely Frances, and our damage was minimal. I cannot imagine what someone must feel after a storm like Katrina, where they lose everything. My attendance at the NAPP Orlando event was cut short because of Frances.
I do need to make a correction in my photo. The Absorokas are EAST of Bozeman, not West. Just a dyslexic moment in typing!

This is the view out of my bedroom windows. ;D
Not as picturesque as the lovely scenes above, but it does come with a huge bonus for me... total privacy.
[Okay, Okay, explanation required... we live behind a shop, so our side view is the building next door :)]

Hi Maciek
What a beautiful view of the church. It looks wonderfully historic. And if you took that photo -- you're a master. Great shot. Where are you, and what is the wall?
Best wishes
GG
P.S. Since I'm being inquisitive and love horticulture, what type of tree is that in the foreground?
Hi,
thank you - this photo was taken by my wife - she is the master!
I'm in little village near Dundee, Scotland and this is our Paris Church - it looks really nice. And this tree is cherry tree.
Maciek
Hi Maciek
Please give your wife my compliments. I really do love the photo of the church. I suspect you live in a relatively idyllic place -- especially compared to the rat race we U.S. city dwellers endure every day. I hope you enjoy it!
I had no idea that cherry trees were so spectacular. Living in a tropical climate, we don't see them.
We have some pretty wonderful flora here in Florida, but it's very unlike that of the colder climates. In my yard I have a wonderful golden rain tree, and it's aptly named. Right now the tree is full of tiny yellow flowers that literally "rain" onto the ground. My yard is covered with "gold." That precludes the production of salmon-colored seed pods that are equally gorgeous. It's our portend of cooler weather and relief from the brutal summer!
My best to the Scottish division of OPR!

Hi,
thank you very much (from my wife). She was so happy to hear it!
Well - we live in something like 'idyllic place' - you named it perfectly! There is a lot of trees, plants and flowers in here! So many colors! Yes - we like Scotland, sometimes the weather is not too nice - it's awfull grey and too much rain. But we feel relaxed in here.
And grass is always green...
We moved to Scotland around 3 years ago (from Poland) - so it's a Scottish-Polish division. S-PD of OPR.
Your description of your place seems nice to me. Maybe you can upload some photos from your yard?
Greetings from beautiful Scotland
Maciek
Hi again!
I just went out to look at the tree, because I'd like to post a photo of it. Right now it's between color stages, so it's not as pretty as it was all yellow or will be when it's covered in salmon. In a few days it should be gorgeous and I'll definitely share its beauty with you. The tree is so large that I have to go across the street to the park to be able to see the flowers and pods, as they tend to be at the top.
I discovered an interesting fact when I went out. I have a southern Magnolia tree near the Golden Rain Tree, and it's going to seed. The seeds are bright red and shiny and wrapped in a tan furry object that slowly opens little folds and allows the seeds to fall out. Very pretty. I've never seen them before.
Our climate is very different from Scotland's. The sun shines nearly every day -- in fact in the '70s the local paper used to be free if the sun didn't shine in a 24-hour period. Our area holds the Guinness World record for the most consecutive days of sunshine - I forget the number, but I believe it's over 300.
Since I love horticulture, this is a wonderful place for me. Our winter is so mild that this is the time we do most of our gardening and have the prettiest plants. Only problem with that is there's no break from yard work!
Best wishes to you and your talented wife, the S-PD of OPR. I love that!
GG
Hi again,
I'm looking forward to see your photos.
I like sun, hot, summer...but not for 300 days!!! :)
SP-D of OPR
Hi SP-D!
I just found the small article I wrote for our publication about St. Petersburg's sunshine record. We average 361 days of sunshine a year. The record was 768 consecutive days of sunshine, back in 1967.
Actually it isn't always HOT. We have 3 or 4 days of winter. (Just kidding) It has actually snowed a couple of times since I moved here in '68. Some winters are pretty cold, we have freezes (very hard on the citrus industry. I lost a beautiful tangerine tree and an avocado tree to frost.) But I don't own a coat, and we don't even have a heater in the house. Most of the time if it gets cold we use the fireplace or space heaters. So the winters are pretty mild. That's why we have so many northern visitors and part-time residents during and after the holidays. Many Canadians spend the winter here. And more and more Europeans have discovered Florida.
I ran out and snapped a couple of shots of the Golden Rain Tree this morning, but then I had to book it to work. I'll see if they're any good this evening and if they are, I'll post one.
Guess I'd better get back to work.
Later!
GG
Hi again
In fact I do like my Polish climate: hot summer and cold winter with a lot of beautiful snow. We're missing snow in here - especially our kids. But...
Wintertime is just beginning in Scotland. It means long, grey, dark, wet evenings and rain, rain, rain...
I'm going to take some photos - rainy photos. Tommorow maybe.
S-PD of OPR
Hi my Scottish-Polish friend,
Here's the best photo I could get of the rain tree. Once the yellow flowers are gone, the pods that are quite small right now will be several times as large. I'm quite fond of this tree. It was given to me by the city for allowing them to use my well when they were landscaping the park across the street. At that point it was a tiny little thing. I think it's about 35 years old or so.
I love snow, too. I was born in New Hampshire and my sister lives in Maine. It was quite comical when my son was little and we would go up to visit over the holidays. He was accustomed to walking out the door in whatever he was wearing at the time. He got quite indignant that he had to put on boots, coat, hat, mittens, etc. before he could even open the door. Wuss!

Fall in West Central Florida!
Hallo from rainy Scotland,
Beautiful colours and plenty of nice leaves on your tree. I really like it!
I've taken some gray - rainy - wet photos today and I'm going to post one of them later, so you can see my "idyllic" Scotland. :)

This is exactly my today's window's view. Not very nice day, agree with me? You can see tower of the church (where are these pink leaves?) and the wall (on the left side of the photo) - both are on my previous photos.
Wintertime in Scotland!!!
Take care,
S-PD of OPR
Hi SP-D
Rain & all it looks like a wonderful place. What I think I'd especially appreciate is all the history. You must love it there.
Thanks for sharing the photo!
GG
Hi SP-D
I thought you'd be interested in the change in the rain tree in 2 days. I took this right after I got home from work. I'd forgotten how quickly it transforms.

Have a wonderful weekend!
GG
Hi GG,
wow! I'm impressed! What a beautiful colors, what a change! Very nice photo - thanks for sharing.
And thank you for your wishes - actually - I have nice weekend. Today we went (whole my family) to beautiful, small and pretty famous Scottish town - St Andrews. The weather was wonderfull, we've seen some beautiful places and I took some photos. It was really nice day.
I wish you the same - have a wonderful weekend.

Hey folks, remember this thread? These are the types of pics I'd like to get into the gallery to demonstrate the global reach of OPR. So click http://www.operationphotorescue.org/forum/index.php?action=gallery;cat=2 (http://www.operationphotorescue.org/forum/index.php?action=gallery;cat=2) and upload a recent picture of where you live and/or what you see when you're working on a photo restoration. Thanks!
John,
It tells me I don't have permission to view the gallery.

John has changed all of the locks and now our keys are useless! OK, just kidding. This will be a very nice addition John.

they are just descriptive words that pictures can be searched by. As the gallery grows, the keywords will be a good tool to use to find images that are related. Definitely not a requirement to post, but I recommend trying to label them when you can.
