Title: Steel (Gazed) Magnolias
Post by: JohnnyE on January 04, 2009, 08:42:23 PM
This woman makes me smile. Such a steely proud gaze.

I'm mostly happy with this one, but I have two questions for feedback:

1) Did I push the color shift too far? Other color concerns?
2) Do the legs/feet look believable? I copped out a bit and used the plants to mask. :)

Oops. Didn't notice the white pixels on the bottom left edge until I posted. Fixed now, so ignore that.

Hi John,

What a great job you have done already!  The solution for the legs looks fine, very smart to continue the grass line like you did.  Much better than having to guess at what shoes she was wearing.

the colors on the original photo are really off and very hard to correct and you did well on your restore.

I have 2 suggestions that you might want to try:
I added a levels adjustment layer and moved the gamma slider to 1.38 to bring out a little more detail.
I also did a color balance adjustment layer and in the highlights I pushed the yellow/blue slider to -11 to tone down the dress a little.

Good feedback, thanks. I modified per your suggestions and uploaded to Photoshelter.

Great job, John! I think you may get a smile from her, but not sure if the hands will come off the hips.
