Looks like US Army over the pocket on the orig. Good luck Lynn.
Looks like one for Candy for sure. Wonder if the picture frame was the result of the heart imprint?
Margie
The heart makes it almost too precious to restore! Ther is more detail in the blue channel, but not much detail in the patch on any layer.
Lynn, maybe they can find out if he is with the LA Nat Guard. This is their patch and they are under the US Army.

Hi Candy.. this is as big as it gets in smugmug...

Do me a favor then. Crop out the area there the shoulder patches are. I'll try too, with the one you posted. Please and thank you. You're welcome to send it to
[email protected].
Thanks Candy... while you were typing I was cropping this part.. a bag of sorts under his arm... not sure what it is.. also another badge/pocket on his right sleeve looking at the screen.. I have the badge on his upper sleeve already naming him LA National Guard... I'm not sure what is around his waist if anything...this is the blue channel...

Hi Candy.. sent you a crop to your email.. I'll start work on the background... I'm finding this image a bit disturbing ... having trouble starting on it... :-\
Thanks
Lynn

Hi gang... working on the background of my soldier.. still can't find information on uniform.. have a call into Margie.. maybe the family can be contacted..

Cleanup is looking good Lynn! Look forward to the final. :up2:
Thanks Lyn
Lynn, I'm asking my brother for help. At this point he said it could be on the top row, second from the left. Not too many that shape he said.
Did you find out where this picture was taken or what state?
Here's the link he shared. http://d2ydh70d4b5xgv.cloudfront.net/images/f/0/50-us-army-unit-insignia-shoulder-amp-sleeve-military-patches-hook-back-lot-652-be9495a69a229d03baf9cc311bd8df19.jpg
Hi Candy... thanks so much for your helping hand... and your brother.. the shape is right but I don't see the stars or the pattern inside being the same.. it might be tho.. I have a call into Margie for some info from the family...
this is the patch that shadow found for me... the inside looks similar don't you think?? I think he's in somewhere south like Louisiana but I'm only guessing.. trees and southern...
https://www.usamilitarymedals.com/products/louisiana-national-guard-multicam-ocp-patch
I understand why you think that. And he may be in the NG in Louisiana. I'll be curious to know what the answer is. My brother retired from the Army after 25 years.
Here's a source you might like. http://leversetdujour.info/united-states-army-units.html#
Neat site Candy. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Candy... Margie is checking with the family.. it'll be interesting to know..
Lynn,
I got this answer this evening from the owner:
QuoteThanks Margie. I truly appreciate it. He was in the U S Army. Thank you and everyone for trying to help us restore some of the pictures that got damage.
Margie
Margie, by chance, did they say where this picture was taken?
Candy, sorry no she didn't. I mentioned the heart on the photo and this is the reply back, and what keeps us going even when a photo seems so hard to restore.
QuoteMargie,
Thanks again...I just wanted our children to have one or two photos of their dad since he's no longer with us and the rest got destroyed. Seems like a heart around him.....doesn't it? For he is in our hearts forever.
I can't think you and everyone enough for this.
When all the photos are ready to go to QC and then to print, Bambi ask Jan if maybe 3 of this photo?
Margie
Need really good eyes on my dear soldier..

Looks like he's coming along very well. Might add a little more camo under the arm area. Also take a look at his right boot again. It's not in the same position as the original.
Do you mean where the bag is under his arm. ?..
Will recheck boot..thanks candy
Looking good. Are you leaving the heart?
Shadow, no on the heart. It was nice in one way, but it was damage.
Margie
Is this foot better... looks it to me.. also darkened the shoulder strap a tad to show map bag..comments please..

Just below the bag, Lynn. That's where the camo has to go. (see pic) It's coming along nicely! PS... Do a search on US Army woodland
camouflage patterns.

This restore is coming along great with all the extra eyes!
Can't wait for the end result, the family will be so happy.
:up2:
Thanks everyone for great eyes and suggestions.. was supposed to leave today for a short trip in camper but it's too windy so I have another day to work on my soldier.. hopefully get him to final..please stop back to check often? Thanks
O.k.... redid the background to more Shadows numbers... filled in the camo.. question is... can I get away with this camo or do I need to replace it..comments please...also cleaned up the white patch of sky on the left of the screen but it's not on this version... just caught my eye..
I think he came out great. It's the person, not the camo, that counts. :)
Oh sweetie thank you for that.. my thoughts exactly! I'll leave him here for a while and see if anyone come up with anything new and if not I'll send him home :loveit:
Think they will love this pic! Like the way you handled the cammo and his right side. On my screen, there is still that red/yellowish damage in the bkgd. See it?
I know.. I reduced it a lot but to me it feels like the late sun coming through... I'll reduce it more and see what you think y'all..Thanks for input shadow
You may be right. One other thing ::) Just saw this, across the ground there are small magenta looking splotches.
Yes I just saw those myself.. thanks for good eyes.. how's this.. :(

Tweak that sky magenta area top left and send this young man home! Beautiful!!
Thank you my friend
Final?

Lighter version.. seemed a bit on the dark side for print??
and that patch of white on the left was catching my eye every time I looked at him...it's a gonna...
My homeprinter does better with the lighter version, but that's just me. Not sure how professional printers deal with that.
You did an awesome job Lynn!
Thanks Hannie
Super awesome job Lynn, impressive!
Thanks Mike... certainly was a labor of love.. :loveit: and a joint effort
Great job!!
Thanks Mary :)
Lynn, great job! Later perhaps the owner may furnish information on the until he serve in and then Candy can research the missing part.
Margie
Thanks Margie that would be great.
Just an quick update. The only information that we were given is the possible unit of our young soldier. He served in the 527 Engineer Battalion in Louisiana. Here is a picture of the unit patch and a story of that unit.

You're very welcome, Lynnya. It was my pleasure to do the research. If we find out more, I'll add it, too.
Its amazing how a strangers life story can stay with you and touch you.
Thanks for sharing Candy!
Great post all around and so interesting to follow the history and I enjoyed the chance to talk to wife. Plus, it is always so rewarding when they get to see how their photo is progressing.
