Title: Three Beauties
Post by: Lynnya on February 12, 2017, 11:31:51 AM
Somehow I ended up with a second image, I requested one from Jonas which I thought had gone so requested this one from Tess and then Jonas's event image came in..  :D
so... as I've nearly finished the first and while waiting on forum comments I'm starting this one. I may have met my match? Take a deep breath and make a start...Color corrected as best I could in many different ways and kept coming up with this.. there is a lot of red much all over it, and some blue and cyan muck as well so I'll have to address that separately..have the white blouse on the little girl at 244 - kicked up the vibrance a tad after reducing the reds - touched up the contrast a smidge..

looking at 100% there is a lot of pattern - I tried fourier transform which helped a bit but not much... have to go and find Jo Ann Snover's tutorial on patterns.. anyone any ideas?

after Fourier Transform

I found her tutorial - now I just have to figure out how to do it..

Oh my!!  Color is looking good. Tried the FFT on a portion of the image and then used Tip Squirrel's method of adding Gaussian blur -used 1.5 on the layer and then changed it to Luminosity and added G Blur 1.5 again. Am wondering if FFT used on portions of an image is helpful instead of the whole thing with all the damage? Are you getting success with Jo Ann's tutorial. (thanks for including the link and here's Tip Squirrel's just in case  http://www.tipsquirrel.com/use-fft-to-reduce-texture/  )

This will keep you off the streets and out of trouble for a very long time. Either that or you will go nuts.  :D

Hey girl, wow, you have come SO far!! On a little screen ... it looks good. Maybe take the rt side of face on boy on lt's face down a bit on brightness? Did that make sense? Beautiful so far

Lynn, great job! I'm leaning more the opposite of Shadow and that is to lighten the left side of the boy's face. On the right side I might darken a little under the eye and possible have the highlights more rounded on his cheeks and the areas around a little darker. Sort of what Shadow is getting at, but I find I like the right side better and the left side to not be as dark. How's that for confusion?  ;)

I love to add to the confusion:  what if you do a little of both Margie's and Shadow's suggestions?   >:D

Great repairs Lynn!

Thanks all for suggestions.. will do all things as well as touch up a few ragged bits... Hannie? did you just dodge his face or some other magic process...

how's this... can you see anything "off"... please speak up.. I want it to be the best it can be Wait!! no no.. just re read Margies comments and will round cheeks more and shade a bit.. never looks the same when I upload to the forum.. it's a good "test"  :)  (plus his mouth doesn't look quite right....(is this the part I go belly up?)

Lynn, I did sneaky Hannie things like copy part of his darker cheek and flipping it horizontally, paste then transform/stretch/erase/adjust tone some to fit the lighter cheek; Dodge/Burn with the 50% Gray Soft Light Layer.
(I am not careful when I do the latter, a slight Gaussian blur over the Layer Mask takes care of any harsh edges)

Thanks Hannie for the "insider info"...How does this version look to you guys?  I hid her hands a bit in the folds of her skirt... does it work better or not...

Lynn,

You have really done a great job on this one. The only thing that bothers me still is that the boy on your left has his face with a noticeable division between light/shadows. This is a studio photo and there would be lighting most likely on three sides and maybe above. Yes, there will be shadows that show the contours of the face, but not where you see the face divided in half. I worked a little on it and not perfect and on the right side of his face parts were totally blown out.

(http://i192.photobucket.com/albums/z10/hayesbucket/face-shadows_zpsijqr68jq.jpg) (http://s192.photobucket.com/user/hayesbucket/media/face-shadows_zpsijqr68jq.jpg.html)

It could still be lighten some more--above brow and eye--but I have tried to remove the splitting of the face.

Other than that--great job!

Much better! I would do one more version and that is to have the left side as light as the right except for the shadows along the edges of his jaw, side of nose, a small shadow under his lips. See how it compares to this one.

Lyn, your last version would pass QC with no problem, but just had to play with it some more. One thing I also noticed is that the top of the boy's head the hair is colorless. Also, I notice the jawline by his ear on your right has a dark orange streak. Now my last playing with your restore before I totally ruin it and then tell you it was fine 3 revisions ago.  :)

Lightened the boy's face, removed the orange line, colored the hair on top.. darkened under lips a tad..

How's it coming? I think all of Margie's suggestions have been great.. nice learning curve for me..

Lyn, nice touch up. The one thing I did and forgot to mention is that I found the boy's face on the left to be too gray and on the right a better skin tone. So I sampled the color on the right side and then added a blank layer and changed the mode to color and painted on the left. You can test what opacity you want. But right now it looks pretty good!

What about the damage above the girls shoulder and down the arm a little?  I may have missed it in the discussion.

Lynn, if you haven't sent this home, maybe blend in the girl's shirt some. Didn't notice it until Candice pointed it out. Funny how that works.

On your last WIP, still seeing orange on the boy in back's face. Looking at him it is his right eye - temple area. You are almost to the finish line  ;)
