New and improved…

ritimagesmall1.jpg This is work was completed by volunteers at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY.

It’s been awhile since the last blog posting, but it’s for a good reason. We have been busy behind the scenes of OPR taking some major steps.

First and foremost is the new website created by our forum guru John Matthews. The new site matches the forum design and puts out a great deal of information about the organization. The hope is for our web presence to continually evolve into an ever more efficient hub for the organization.

Secondly, we are cranking out restorations at a steady pace and more damaged originals are on the way.  Printing through West Coast Imaging has finally begun and the results are terrific.

We just received a CD of images collected in Gulfport, MS. Becky has already started working on organizing the images and will be posting them soon to our Photoshelter galleries.

Also, we have new volunteers from the Baton Rouge, LA daily newspaper The Advocate. A couple of the paper’s photojournalists will be organizing copy work runs throughout the Gulfcoast region in the coming month. The hope is to have a steady feed of damaged originals coming in to keep the OPR machine running.

Last, but not least, OPR will be hosting a silent auction fundraiser in Fredericksburg, VA on Saturday, October 7. We hope to have fifty items up for bid and we’re on the lookout for potential items to add to the collection. We’re trying to focus on artwork, antiques, specialized service packages or anything else that might bring in big bids. If you have an item that you would like to donate to the auction, please drop me a line at [email protected]. Please keep in mind, that we have to be selective on what items get included.

The Fredericksburg community has been known to come out in force to help out a good cause. And what’s a better cause than OPR. I’ll provide more details about the fundraiser, as we get closer to the date.

As I close out this post, I just want to mention what all of us already know. The one-year anniversary has already passed. I think it is clearly evident that our help is still needed to boost the spirits of these people who are living in the face of so much adversity.

In case I haven’t told you all lately, thank you for all of your help.

 Dave
