Remembering Pat Wendt
« on: December 15, 2019, 10:04:28 PM »
Hi Everyone,

I was saddened to hear that Pat Wendt, one of our long time OPR Volunteers, had died Saturday December 7. She hasn't been on the Forum for a long time due to health issues, but before that she was a favorite with all of us. Pat was a great restorer, but more than that she had a wonderful sense of humor and it was fun the banter that went on the Forum and I have provided some links that will give you a glimpse of Pat. I followed Pat on Facebook and back in June she posted about her deteriorating health.

To any of my Facebook friends who are still speaking to me, thank you! I am truly sorry about the long silence, and I owe you all an explanation. It's a long story, but I've been in heart failure since last February. The short version is that I now have two blown valves. They aren't going to get better, & because of the “unfortunate event” five years ago, they're inoperable.

I am told people can live with this for several years. My answer is why would they want to? Yes indeedy, that's what they call “depression” talking. To clarify, let me add that I'm not depressed because of the shocking discovery that I'm, gasp, mortal. Seriously, ME??? Who would have thought? Actually I'm perfectly cool with my mortality. I've been exceedingly lucky, & had a happier life than I ever could have imagined. I'm depressed because my quality of life is currently very low.

There are so many good Forum links with Pat, but here are a few of my favorites in no particular order?

Here is a before/after of a really difficult photo that Pat restored. So many of our Forum links no longer have pictures because what was a free service was hijacked by needing to pay ransom for them.

Pat, you will be sorely missed.

Margie

I'm so sad to hear of Pat's passing.  We joined OPR about the same time and she was such a joy to read and I loved her work!  She will be missed!

So sad to hear of Pat's passing. Thanks for letting us know Margie and for taking the time to share the links to some of her posts. Pat had a wonderful sense of humor and mad skills. She inspired me. She was also a lovely dog lover and I enjoyed her Don Diego. http://bluestembooks.com/

I admired Pat's restoration skills and the humor in her posts. I had a blown heart valve years ago and fortunately, it was successfully repaired. When I found out about Pat's heart condition, I was very concerned because I knew what that will do to a person. With the decline of her health, she stopped posting at the forum here but still sporadically posted on Facebook. Even with the difficult condition, her humor in the posts had never diminished. I am so sorry to hear about her passing. I miss her.

Pat was an OPR treasure of the rarest kind.  She will live in our hearts and memories forever.

This post is linked on Pat's Facebook page as I wanted to show how much she meant to all of us. I got this back from her husband Scott:
