I didn't realize there would be world wide volunteers here!  Very cool.  Looking forward to being part of this organization and meeting people, improving skills.  Obviously, happy to have the chance to preserve/return memories to people.

Hi Barb, a warm welcome to the forum from Amsterdam!
You are at the right place to meet new people and share your restoring skills.
I stumbled onto OPR years ago on youtube.  After watching it I was so impressed that I joined OPR immediately.

Hi Barb and welcome from Michigan!  We are trying to finish up the damaged photos from the Joplin Copy Run so that we can start stocking the galleries with photos from the Hummelstown Copy Run so youíve joined at a great time.

Not only do we have volunteers from all over the world, they all very generously share tips and techniques.  Donít hesitate to post your work in the forum if you need help or have questions.

Hi, Barb. A big welcome from Las Vegas (practically a foreign country!) I've learned everything I know about photo restoration by reading and posting on Forum. Experts like Pat, Jonas, Margie, Hannie, Tess, Kiska, Shujen and too many others to list are ready and willing to share everything they know. Your own personalized tutorial whenever you need it.

Hi Barb, welcome from Kansas! I think that is what makes OPR such a fun place to be is sharing with volunteers from all over the world. Besides getting great tips, it can get humorous around here. Like the time a certain Dutch gal was trying to use slang like an Aussie.  ;D

P.S. The Aussie was impressed!

A warm welcome from Michigan Barb,

You will find very helpful and friendly people here on the Forum.  Don't be afraid to ask for help on any picture you choose to restore.  If you ever get the opportunity to be on a copy run you will meet some of the people personally.  Look at some of the posts and explore the camaraderie and helpful posts.

A pleasure for you to join us.

Mike

I feel like I fell into my hometown!  I'm the granddaughter of Dutch immigrants that settled in Michigan and an airforce brat that lived in Kansas City MO and Michigan (and many other places).  My best friend is in Vegas and I've been to visit.  Never made it to Australia though.

Hi Barb

A warm welcome from a recalcitrant old timer in Florida. I've been on an unexpected and hopefully soon-to-be-over hiatus from my beloved OPR job and pals. Hannie's playing of the "Home" video so reminds me of my early days in OPR.  I was one of the first volunteers, and that video is what called to me.  I'd only done a few restorations, and I really loved doing them, so I joined, posted my first restoration with great trepidation and was met with so much help and camaraderie that I knew I'd found home! I'm sure you'll feel the same way.  There's always someone checking posts, ready to help with any questions or issues you might have with your work.

Some of our more vocal volunteers are a bit serious (a certain Dutch hun person comes to mind - no names mentioned), but others can be a lot of fun.  Enjoy and learn. This is a great family.

BTW, any of you old-timers who remember Aussi Max: I've gotten a couple of e-mails from him.  He's doing okay, but having a bit of a down time like me, but still has his wonderful sense of humor.  May or may not be back, but I thought you'd want to know that he and Margaret are still doing well - hating getting old, just like me, but still hanging in there.

I'm hoping to be joining you on the forum before long.

Cheers,

GK

Welcome Barb,

I am sure you will have fun and there is no shame in deciding a restoration is beyond you, we have all been there.

You may have noticed a poor attempt at an Australian accent by a member, Tess, Max and I are the true authorities and are willing to offer education as necessary.

Haven't heard from Max for some time since trying to set up a local operation. Thanks for the reminder Glenna.

Ah Hannie, good question.

Her correct name is Dame Emma Chisit OAC, only one "s". She has been a leader in the price war, particularly supporting Aussies traveling OS. Unfortunately this means extensive travel for her and long absences from home.

It is also thought that she is responsible for the $A being above parity with the $US over the last 12 month or so.

A quick search on the WEB will fill you in on the details
