I've just received my first photo, and I've got a concern about the original image... I think the dress the girl is wearing was a green checker, but part of it is grayed out/ light light green check that looks white.  There was a lot of green/red distortion on the original and I'm not sure if the dress should be green or if it should be white...  I've still got a little work to do on this, but I really like doing things right the first time...
Any help or ideas would be most appreciated.
Thanks!

Hi LakaNami,

Fear not, we are here to help you. I see you tried to post your photo, but it is not showing. Are you using Photobucket and copying the link to your comment?

Sorry to take so long to reply. I think the dress is white with a green print. I downloaded your photo and did some color correction. What I did was add a Levels Adjustment layer. In the dialog box I went to each of the three colors (RGB) and moved the sliders (black & white not the grey middle one) to where the histogram starts to rise. Then click OK. Below is the result. It is best to do this as one of the first things when you start your restoration.

From what I can see you have done a great job. I think what maybe happening is that the white of overpowering the green in the skirt. So you are seeing more white than green print.

You might check out these two forum topics. The first one is different way to achieve the result I described above. The second one is good to remove or tone down a color cast. I have used it on sections of my latest restores by making a selection and following the color cast removal instructions. Hope this helps.

schen

The rectangular areas seem to indicate the green is damage but the oval areas seem to indicate they were original.  Sorry, can't make up my mind and provide suggestions.

I think I may have it... There's still a bit of dithering that was on the original photo, but I've gotten the green out...  any last minute comments or should I submit it?
