I think you've done a grand job on the damage and my suggestion is about trying to recover some of the nearly-blown highlights, something like this:

I added two Curves Adjustment layers. The first was set to multiply blend mode with a black mask. I then painted in lighter & darker shades of gray on the very bright areas and blurred the mask to soften edges more. The other curves adjustment layer was to add a little contrast overall (an S curve).
See what you think. You can tell you've darkened too much when you get a flat gray instead of the colors jumping back. You can Shift Click on the black mask of the multiply blend mode layer to see what's possible - the truly blown areas will stay blown even with everything around them darkening.
