Title: Mellow Yellow
Post by: Shadow on January 27, 2018, 11:55:51 AM
Had fun with the B&W so thought I'd try something challenging. Oh my. :D  Calling on the trusted color gurus for guidance!!  Here's the latest with a Curve Layer and then a Hue/Sat with Yellow decreased and lightened and then the Green decreased. Am I on the right track or heading down the yellow brick road?  :funny:  ALL your help appreciated gang!!

Very brave of you Lyn!
What if you concentrate your color correction on the subjects and then later on correct the surroundings with separate layers and masks?

I did a levels and curves on the subjects here.

Oh my, this is both humorous and terrifying at the same time, and I'm not thinking about the damage alone. The perspective on this one has them as giants compared to the house. Lyn, you might want a shot of something before attempting this one.

Hey whats with the sad face... it's coming along nicely!! you can tweak the colors at the end a bit more.. take a break and come back to it..

Funny girl! I was trying to channel you ...You always manage to come up with good solutions. Just can't get a handle how to fix that top right corner. Will definitely be tweaking color at the end. Will take a break and come back later.

Good thinking... on the top right in the blue channel it's mostly trees with a bit of sky thrown in between.. I'd be inclined to grab the left side and jump it to the right ..the main focus is the people in my humble...and re the colors? you can always add a bit of color with a blank layer and then paint in using "color" blend mode.. you could steal some of Hannie's color from her version but don't tell her I said that....

I agree, the background on the right side seem to be a couple of tree, some green and little bit of sky showing.
In case you want to "steel" any of my colors, the image I posted is the same size as the original.

Hey girl... lookin mighty good.. I think I agree with you on the tree.. the right side of the tree seems fine.. maybe a little heavy in the center area.. maybe jump some of the lighter trees more to the right and lighten up that first part of the big tree.. am I making sense..you've done a wonderful job with it Lyn.. you're nearly there

On the other hand... looking at it again.. it looks really good.. see what other's say..   I just remembered Hannie's trick of Auto Color at the end... I tried it and the result looked pretty good on my monitor..see what you think..

I like it too Lyn.
The green part on the left side look a little too "regular", it shows the cloning path.  What if use a little from the right side and transform that patch it a little?

Who knew trees could be so tricky  :D  Thanks Lynn and Hannie for the good eyes and suggestions. Have hopefully improved the left side. Added the Curves auto at the end too. More tweaks? Send it home?  ::)

Looking good Lyn... tiny thing that I'm not sure can be fixed easily.. the skin tones look very grey on my screen..and the greens may be a tad too green but that could be my new ultra saturated monitor.. let me know what you think..

Other than that it's wonderful

I just thought I'd check the numbers on the skin tones (Kiska sits on my shoulder) and the cyan is way too high making them grey... should be about a third of the magenta and yellow.. which can be about the same or yellow a tad higher.. maybe you can adjust the skin tones and then hide all and mask just the skin back in??

You could copy Hannie's version into your photoshop and take the skin colors - new layer, blend mode color - and paint the skin with that skin color then reduce the opacity til you like it? I tried that and it looked pretty good.. also reduced the saturation on the greens a tad maybe?

Look forward to seeing the final on this tricky one Lyn..it's one of "those"....

:D  Helps if I don't turn off the layers that adjusted the skin tones! Thanks for catching that Lynn! Did more desat on the background green also. Decided to also send my distributor a black and white version just in case. Really appreciate all the help on this girls!! I would have thrown in the towel without you.  :P
Now then, one of these is next ...

Lynnya,
Could you expound a bit upon your "check the #'s on the skin tones" in your post above?
I also remember seeing something about checking the blacks and whites as well?
Thanks,
Mary

Hi Mary,
Lynn might be off with her new camera. Below is a video of using the CMYK numbers to correct skin tones that might help.
On the black and white points, Taz Tally has some wonderful videos (you can see most on You Tube) on color correction and he talks about setting the black and white points - usually W is 245, 245, 245 and B is 15, 15, 15. You can use Curves or Levels to do that by tweaking each channel independently if needed. Doing that can keep you from blowing out your highlights and having your blacks be more than just a blob.
By the way, Lynda.com is now available at a lot of public libraries at no charge.
Hope this helps.  :)

Thanks also for your help on my picture. 🙂
