Title: cropping
Post by: Lynnya on December 20, 2015, 09:51:40 AM
Hi All Merry Christmas!
I have a question about cropping.. when downloading an image from the gallery and it says "cropping permitted" does that mean crop the whole image which would reduce the size, or fade the extremely damaged area to the original edge keeping the image to the original size... sorry if this seems a daft question.

Never worry about asking questions! When cropping is permitted, that usually means that there are large areas of the photo that can't be restored or where it's impossible to tell what was there originally. The objective is to remove that section of the photo but also to keep the same aspect ratio.

If you're not sure where to crop, email your distributor directly (that's the person in charge of the gallery where you got the photo). The distributor may have a specific crop in mind.

Hi Lynn,

Good question and Tori893 is correct and I would go a step further by saying it would be best to have your distributor okay the crop and in some cases do the crop and upload it back to you and one to the archive. The reason I say this is that when Quality Control goes over the final restore, both the finished and the original are compared. So if you have the original and a different size than the crop it presents a few problems. It would be better if a crop is to be done, that the new original cropped be on file so that a true comparison can be made.

Merry Christmas to you.
