Title: Little Sweetheart
Post by: Pat on August 30, 2011, 06:46:21 PM
Hi Everyone,

If this little gal doesn't steal your heart nothing will.  Please let me know where you see the need for more work.

Pat, she looks absolutely beautiful---both the girl and your restore!

What is interesting here is that on my monitor the photo looks overly saturated and the face too red, but when I download to my computer it looks Great! I think this happens because Internet Explorer ignores color profiles.  Red seems to be the one color that will look more intense than it really is.

Hi Margie,

That is interesting!  I'm using Firefox and it does not look too saturated at all.  But Mike is using Internet Explorer and it looks absolutely awful!  If I'd realized how it was going to look to all the Internet Explorer users I would have been too embarrassed to post it even knowing that it is not really that saturated.

Hi Pat,

That is why I posted the disclaimer. Don't stop posting, just add the difference in looks on a different browser. The same thing happen on the last post I did. The young man was not that red in the face. I don't notice such a difference with other colors.

I have used Firefox and it is suppose to be better security wise, but I guess I have gotten comfortable with IE. The funny thing is that when I do our newsletters, I get a warning that IE is not stable and would I like to use a different browser.

She looks gorgeous on my browsers, all 3 of them. I wonder why some render differently on other computers. I can't really tell the difference on mine?

Like Tess I get the same result on all my browsers.

I think that it has more to do with monitors in this case, for instance:
- my old desktop monitor shows image to be the same in browsers and Photoshop
- my high end Lenovo monitor shows image too red in all browsers and it looks fine in Photoshop...

The mind boggles.

RC has a tutorial on the NAPP site that suggests saving for the Web in Adobe RGB, rather than sRGB to solve the browser color shift problem.

http://www.photoshopuser.com/members/tutorials/web/save-images-using-adobergb.html (http://www.photoshopuser.com/members/tutorials/web/save-images-using-adobergb.html)

Edit/clarification: you must be a member of NAPP to view the video, but the short version is that Adobe RGB images do not suffer the color shift that affects sRGB in the various browsers.

You can test this by saving the same .jpg image in both color profiles, then drag them into your browser(s) for side-by-side viewing comparisons.

Thanks Terry! I had noticed the problem with different browsers and assumed there wasn't a simple fix. Of course, now I need to go back and check all my web images . . .

Terry, thanks so much for the tip! I would never have guessed that would make a difference. For those of us that have that problem, it might be interesting to post one with sRGB and the other as Adobe RGB. Thanks for the link, those who are NAPP members will be able to read it.

Great tip Terry, thanks!
It works well on my good Lenovo monitor.
(with the desktop monitor, the Adobe RGB version looks washed)

Never knew I could drag/drop images straight into the browser....  ::)

Thank you Terry!  I am not at NAPP member so I could not view the video but did try your suggestion of saving a copy for WEB in Adobe RGB.  The result looks washed out on my monitor:
