I don't know if this is of any use to anyone, but I just thought I'd add it here.
After viewing schen's latest clean up, this little point came to mind.
At the start of the thread there was some concern about mirroring of the image.
I looked at the original photo and noticed the boys shirt/jacket was buttoned left over right.
When I was younger this was allways how we could tell the difference between men & women shirts, jeans or anything with buttons.
Men - left over right, women - right over left.

Good point.  Why didn't I think about that?

When I was young, men wore pants women wore skirt.  And men - left over right, women - right over left for shirt/blouse were strictly followed.

I only thought about it because having 5 older sisters, mum always tried to hand down stuff like cardigans, plain white blouses or jeans from the sisters.
NO WAY, thats girls stuff I'm not wearing that.
But now it's all unisex, everyone just wears anything.

Before there were designer jeans for women, all the denim jeans were men's style.  Now they flip the direction of overlap and charge twice as much.  What a great business idea.   

When I was in college, some girls started wearing men's shirts.  They claimed they were cheaper and more comfortable.

I have seen many images of little boys from before 20th century wearing skirts.  I wonder whether that was a way of saving the diapers.
