Hi Dave

I'm sure you've seen on the news the havoc wreaked on several areas of Central Florida when tornadoes blasted through on Christmas day.  One came within two houses of the parents of one of my art department associates.  They spent several hours in a "safe room".  Some holiday!

I wonder if we have any means by which to help those affected by this event.  Many mobile homes and apartments were demolished in the rampage, and terrible rain storms also assaulted much of the area.  I suspect there are thousands of ruined photos in the debris.  I'm within an hour's drive of the west coast's worst hit area, but I have no means by which to capture photos.  Do you have any suggestions as to how I could help otherwise?

On a happier note,  have a wonderful and prosperous new year!

Glenna,

OPR could and should help out if there is a need. Right now, we would need volunteers local to the area, such as yourself, to be the driving force. You could start by putting the word out (i.e. fliers, contacting the local Red Cross, etc.). We could help you out with this. I could also try to drum up support from non-forum member volunteers from Florida.

Let me know if this is something you can do and we'll get working on it.

Dave:

I'll do whatever possible.  I can make calls, contact media, the Red Cross and anyone else you feel appropriate.  I have limited time because of my job, so you would have a better idea than I how I could be most effective. If you give me specifics, I'll do everything I can, including possibly recruiting some help at work (my boss is a very compassionate guy -- he might be willing to comp some time off for me.  I'm pretty good at groveling for a good cause!).  We do a lot of business with a quick-print shop near our office, so I'll check with them about printing fliers.  I can create them (with your guidance on verbage), and see if they'd run them out for me.

Best wishes!
