Hello Dave, I know this has come up before and there has not been a solution to this. As a volunteer I would really like to have some kind of feedback after I finish a restoration and upload the picture back to Photoshelter. For once, I don’t even know if the download really worked. Not to talk about the question, did I do a good job with the restoration and will it be returned to its owner?
I know, I know you guys are having your hands full to keep up with all the workload. I understand that and my intention is not to complain about the situation or to criticize. So I had this idea floating around in my head and I would like to put it out there for discussion.
I think it could be very satisfying for us to see all the pictures after restoration again and as an added bonus we would know our work has been accepted. We would also upload a low resolution version of the photo back to Photoshelter and this could be displayed either in the same way as the damaged versions (after it went trough the approval process) or if that’s not possible, there is the Portfolio section on the Photorescue main webpage. Let’s say for a period of 2 to 3 weeks every volunteer can check on his restored picture if he or she wants to and know than everything is ok if the picture is in the “outgoing folder”.
I, as a volunteer, could than also judge for my self how well or not well I’m doing and also see what can or can’t be done.
I don’t know if I made myself clear or if this is even a possibility, but who knows maybe this could be worked out.

GP,

I know feedback is important. We're working on a couple of ideas to provide more in regards to the work you and all of the other volunteers are doing. After this coming weekend's fundraiser event is over, we'll be able to devote more time and effort to those plans. Until then, please know that even if we don't say it enough your efforts are substantially appreciated.

Hello all.  I agree with GP; I've done 2 restorations so far, and am not really sure if either of them was acceptable or if the second one came through to PhotoShelter at all.  (I assume it did make it through, because I haven't received any "what's up" emails...)

I know OPR appreciates the efforts that any of us makes in restorations, there's no doubt about that - but it would be nice to have some kind of confirmation that the finished product arrived and is either acceptable or needs more work.  Even an automatic email stating "photo received; will be in touch if further work is required" could do the trick...

(Maybe the "needs more work" messages DO happen, and I just haven't received one yet?)

Anyway, just needed to jump on the train.  Thanks - Donna  Smiley

One quick and easy way to get feedback is to post your images in the forums prior to uploading back to the OPR database.

I'm not sure if you've considered that, but not only is it a good way to get some honest feedback, it's also a great benefit to the community who can learn from your techniques.

I suppose when you get a few thumbs up from fellow OPR volunteers that can be considered a green light to upload and move on to the next pic.

I can't agree with John more. OPR is a work in progress and is constantly evolving. One day (and I know "one day" is the biggest cliche associated with this organization), we will be able to provide more individual feedback to all of the restoration volunteers. Right now, we have 5 people who run the organization and over 900 restoration volunteers. The odds are against individual feedback at this time.

I believe this forum is an absolute goldmine for instant feedback. Sometimes, that feedback could be a bit more critical and a little less "hooray for us", but every bit of it has been constructive.

As far as receiveing some kind of reply when you upload an image to Photoshelter, I think that's a good idea. I'll work to get that implemented during the next round of images when we have more than two distribution coordinators running the show.

Keep the ideas flowing everyone.
