Hello,
I am Stephen Duclos and have just joined OPR. I am a Photoshop enthusiast, amateur photographer, and have many other hobbies, and semi retired from Quality Assurance work. I have done photo restorations for a local Scrap Booking shop but they went out of business. We just had a natural disaster here in VT, major flooding from Hurricane Irene that really affected roads, washed away homes and businesses and left our beautiful state in quite a mess. I thought that one thing I could do to help is to restore photo's locally and nationally. I am looking forward to the challenge.

Welcome Stephen,

From one Newbie to another, nice to have another quality assurance type with a background in photo restorations.   I am sure you will be a big help to OPR and a lot of people in need.  Please see the other Forum topic “Vermont being washed away.   Click on the link below.

Stephen welcome to OPR!

We have been following the disaster in Vermont and hope that you managed to get through it all without serious damage to your own belongings.

With your background I’m sure you will fit right in here.  We are so glad you have decided to join us.  Your generous gift of time and talent is very much appreciated.  It’s never boring at OPR and the work is wonderfully rewarding as well as a little addictive.

Take some time to check out past posts here in the forum where you will not only learn a little about your fellow volunteers (a rather zany group at times) but also find an abundance of tips and suggestions that you can bookmark.  We look forward to seeing more of you here in the forum and don’t forget to post your WIP for friendly critique if you run into a snag with a photo you are working on.

Welcome, Stephen! I learn something new every day from someone in this group and there's a wealth of information in each photograph. Each flooded home becomes it's own chemical soup that causes it's own brand of damage. The age of the photograph, the printing process, the paper—all present a unique set of issues for the restorer. That could be overwhelming if it weren't for the kind and generous advice from your fellow volunteers in the Forum. You'll be surprised what you can do with a little help. Your Quality Assurance background is bound to be an asset to us all. I'll be looking for your work on Forum.

Hi Stephen, welcome to OPR from Kansas. Great to have you on-board and also nice that you have experience in photo restoration. So sad to see what is happening in your home state. We have two OPR volunteers already trying to get the word out about drying out the photos. Hopefully we might be able to help Vermont next spring. Right now we are planning a copy run to Joplin October 7-8. We look forward to hearing more from you on the forum and keep us posted about the progress in Vermont.

Hi Stephen and a warm welcome to the forum from Amsterdam!

So sad to see what happened to your beautiful state, can't imagine what it would be like to see so much distruction all around...

I hope you will enjoy restoring photos, there still is much to do in that department.

Welcome to OPR Stephen from southwest Ohio.

You folks got a double whammy from Irene and then Lee snuck in your back door. We here in Ohio had some rain from Lee but none near what other parts got. Finally it left these parts today with some cloud cover late in the afternoon and a brief shower.

It is great to be able to sit at home and restore what people think are lost memories. Rebuilding homes and businesses is important and so are family memories.

I too am retired and it is good to have some of the more matured members to keep these young whipper snappers under control.
