Hi,
This was an interesting restore. I thought I could probably find a workable border from a google image search, but no go, so this morning I went to Chuck E Cheese's for the first time in 25 years Smiley. They were delighted to give me a background paper with the border on it.

However, I really don't know what should be done with the image itself. There is what seems to be part of a person on the right, but it clearly was never complete. If this were mine, I would move the main image over and remove the partial one.

I'd love some direction. Hmmm, I'm not sure which one of the emoticons expresses indicision Smiley

Thanks,

Gloria

Gloria,

I was marveling at your restoration of the border until I read your method.  That was brilliant.  Thumbs up

Regarding your indecision, if it were me, I would leave it the way it was.

Lol! It would have been much more clever of me to let you think I did the border myself! But I would have soon been found out:).

Thank you for the advice. That was what I thought I should do. That other partial is probably his little sister, who featured in my other restore.

I will fix a few things, and also lower the saturation, I think. The green is a little bright.

Thanks so much,
Gloria

Hi Gloria, how funny about your trip to Chuck E Cheese's in 25 years--talk about going the extra mile to do a restoration! I agree with Shujen about leaving it as you have it. The boy has several sisters, but there is nothing to go on. Looks great!

What a great idea, Gloria! I would never have thought of that. It is so tempting at times to recompose a picture like that, but you just have to bite your lip and move on. Restoration is more like being an art conservator, or reweaving Persian rugs. We bring them back to what they were, not to what they could have been. If you're a retoucher, it's hard to resist. But tracking down the border was sheer genius.

I would have liked to have been there when you explained to them what you were doing and why you needed the background paper!  Seems to me they owe you a slice of pizza.

Great job Gloria Thumbs up
