my feelings exactlly!

« on: July 08, 2011, 08:18:55 PM »

OK, I've been working on this one for a while.  Now I have a painting rather than a photo.  Any suggestions on how I can fix this???  The original is almost destroyed, with minimal data in the channels.  I've tried LAB, RGB, and CMYK.  There's just nothing there.  I chatted with another OPR Hero, and he said the same thing.  I finally decided to start with getting the color (grays) back into the photo, by using light opacity painting techinques.  I've darkened, lightened, curved, leveled...you name it.  If I put the damaged photo over as a top layer, everything lines up well, facial features appear correct, etc.  But it lookes painted to me.  I'm not sure how to get it back to photo status.  Any ideas??

How about this...

I took the face from this one:

and scaled it and blended it into what I had previously.  I think this still needs a little work, but better than first.   Opinions??

Hi Happyheart,

You have performed a miracle on this impossible restore!
I like your first version the best, it seems to come closest to the girl's looks?

What if you take the original and paste it over your restore, hide all layer mask and carefully bring back some of the shading in her face?  Afterwards it'll take a little smoothing out but you would lose the "painted" look.

Great job!

 Thumbs Up v.2

I think I see....you basically just used the shading along the sides of the face.  I'll work on it this afternoon.  I want to do a little more with the pants also.  What do you think of the background???....too dark???

Perhaps the background is a little too dark on the right side?

Yes, the dark shading on the side of her face and the blown out white part in the middle.  If I remember well I painted her face back with about 20% brush or higher, evenover her eyes and mouth.
