Judy, Brian's arm is not bad.  It is a matter of subtle shading that makes the difference.
 


If you can't tell right away why Kiska's version looks more natural, zoom in and quickly look from left to right and back.   Spot where shading should be and, don't forget, the very subtle highlights. 

This is what I always do when I want to copy an improvement.
