Hello everyone, i've decided to venture out of my b&w safety zone once again and try for another colour picture.

I'd better check with you guys on this to make sure the colour and brightness are ok before i go ahead and work on the more difficult oval at the top right.

You know i'm quite clueless with things like colour and levels and such, and not even sure if the background is supposed to be white so any pointers you can give on this photo will help a lot.

Great colors Kev!
Yes, the background could be white or slightly tinted.  It is hard to tell from the original.

Remember the shadows/highlights adjustment layer?  It can be used here to bring back the highlights in the hair sections.
(in my example I may have overdone it)
