I am not sure if this link will work, but i am going to give it a try.  This is the problem I am having with cs5 & the noise filter.  I dont know if anyone can reproduce this problem.  Please look at the link & let me know what you think....it is not the video card.  The apple store checked the video card & it is working just fine.

MB, the link works fine.
It is the weirdest thing I've ever seen.  My first thought would be that the video card is acting up but you already had that checked out.  It could still be a conflict between the driver of your video card and CS5.
There is nothing on the web similar to what you have, perhaps other Apple owners
with CS5 can have a go at trying to reproduce this bug.

What video card do you have ?

Hannie,
I have NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 video card.

I have been having this problem with cs5 and the noise filter for a long time.  I had giving up working with photos, it has been over a month since this problem started.

I have been emailing my problem with cs5  & the noise filter back an forth to a very nice Engineer in the photoshop team.  But, it was not getting my problem resolved .  So I decided to go the photoshop tech service.  About a week ago I went to Adobe tech support & sent them a video of my problem (Yes!!!!, in the process I learned how to create a video).  It took Photoshop tech service over a week to answer my complain, but today I got an email.
They told me to do the following (I am including the Instructions from photoshop in italic in case someone else finds this bug on cs5):

Quit photoshop, the go to:
 Users
Username [this is your personal name on the mac]
Library
Preferences
Adobe Photoshop CS5 Settings
Adobe Photoshop CS5 Prefs.psp
then change the name to:
8. Adobe Photoshop CS5 Prefs.old

Start photoshop.   Photoshop creates a new Adobe CS5 Prefs.psp file.

It has been hell working with CS5.........I hope it never happens again....the bug is gone!!!

MB, that is wonderful news, you must be so happy about that!
From what I read on the web your card runs well with Photoshop so it obviously was a Mac preferences issue (not surprising actually).

On the Adobe website there was mention of a few more issues.  Maybe interesting for anyone with the same video card/Mac/CS5 setup:

Card: Nvidia GeForce GT 120

Issue:  Crashes occur when making selections in Mac OS.
Solution: Unplug and reconnect the video card adapter cable.  If this connector comes loose, it can cause Photoshop to crash.

Cards: Nvidia GeForce GT 120 and GeForce 8800
Issue: The Anti-Alias Guides And Paths option in the OpenGL Advanced Settings dialog box does not create anti-aliasing in selections.  This issue occurs when Advanced or Normal mode on Mac OS.
Solution: Set the mode to Basic.
