Think the colors are pretty near the money but it is getting late so a check would be good

Thanks

Hi Athol,

I think it looks great this way :-)!
Baby skin tends to be a little reddish, so I'd just leave it like that ☺.

But the area behind her hair (on top of her head) looks a little like the old background color is still shining through. Maybe you could check that?

Athol, you did a really good job!
Looks can be deceiving, these colors were not easy to correct.
The smocking on the little dress now looks like you can almost feel the texture of it, how did you do that?

 Thumbs Up v.2

Thanks for the comments. Our youngest grandchild is a bit older and I do enjoy these sort of images.

Jonas, tidied up the area you mentioned.

You are right about the colors Hannie, the result is from two gradient maps plus hue/saturation and lots of fiddling. Funny though, the smocked are is untouched apart from the initial levels/color adjust. Maybe the moral is the less messing about the better.

Now on to black and white

Athol, I can tell that the smocking is the same as the original but no matter how hard I try, I can't get that textured look that you have in your restore.  It is subtle but definitely there.

Hannie, you are right.

I worked on the whole smock trying to get the color right and with the gradient masks it seemed that the shadows were being lightened. So I did a USM 20 20 on the whole smock. Then to get back to the original color of the smocking I copied and pasted that part above the color adjustment layers.

I tend to duplicate an image every so often so could go back over most of my steps and could see the difference you saw.

There is nothing like being clever when you don't know you are Roll Eyes
