I have been using a Spyder 3 over the last couple of months but still find it difficult to get realistic skin tones.

How does it look?

Hi Athol,

I think the baby looks great. I got almost the same color correction as you did, with the only difference being that the dress on mine was warmer and had a little more yellow, especially in the folds of the lace. Plus, the baby is a little darker, but not by much. I started to try and find a good gray point, but didn't quite get what I wanted, so I did a Curves Adjustment layer and hit the "auto" and it came out very close to what you got.

Very nice!

Hi Athol,

I'm sure your Spyder 3 works well, this photo is not as easy is it seems to adjust but you did a great job.
If you are worried about about skin color you may experiment with a Color Balance adjustment layer and try to move the yellow/blue slider a notch to the left.

Margie, as a start I tried color correction by using auto levels, auto color and the usual method I use which relies on a threshold adjustment layer.

With the results of all three on layers I went bonkers switching between them and was surprised to see how a small change in hue made a substantial difference to the face. Of course, to give myself more options I applied variations as well!!!

I think I will leave it as it is, the last thing I did Hannie was to add a small amount of yellow in the mid-tones which seemed to make the far side of the face more natural

This of course means that I have finished a restore in hours rather than weeks, I had forgotten what it is like and all credit must go to Margie and her restraint with the grunge machine We're Not Worthy!

Athol,

I hate to admit this photo was not due to my restraint, but a free pass by one of the volunteers at the greeting table. Then when the distributors had their chance to add some final touches with the grunge machine, it slipped by us. We were not happy with our oversight, but decided to go with the old saying: When life hands you a lemon, make lemonade. We came to the conclusion that volunteers were getting burned out and getting where they didn't trust their trustworthy distributors, so these easy ones are our way of building everyones confidence levels up again. And then when you least expect it . . .    Evil
