Hi everybody,

I worked as an OPR volunteer for over a year during the Katrina crisis, but I have been inactive for some time. I should like to get back to work, but the system has changed considerably. I can't figure out how to post to an existing topic on the forum, so I started a new topic. I'll get it all figured out soon, I'm sure.

I went to PhotoShelter, put in my password,  and tried to download two photographs to work on but I must have done something wrong. Now it seems I have to leave a message to get permission. I did so but never got a reply. What do I have to do now to get a picture?

I'm somewhat frustrated

Welcome back!

Because of some on-going changes in PhotoShelter, right now to get a photo to work on you need to email the distribution coordinator directly:
Hannie: hannie@operationphotorescue.org
Tess: tcameron@operationphotorescue.org or
Margie: mhayes@operationphotorescue.org

Ask for the image by the photo's whole extension number.

Best wishes,
Tori

Hi Humecol and welcome back!

Yes, things have changed a lot since you were gone. Since having PhotoShelter, volunteers could leave comments to the photo that they would like to work on and then the distributor would download that photo to their gallery. Even with the current glitch, PhotoShelter was never set up so that volunteers could download their photos at will. All downloads have to go through a distributor--otherwise we would have no record of who had what photo and the date it was taken. We are hoping that this glitch will be fix in a week or two. For now, follow the instructions that Tori has listed and be patient as this has slowed down our processing time. If the problem in PhotoShelter cannot or will not be fixed, OPR will be looking for an alternative.

As to your problem of posting to the forum, it looks like you have that solved. You do need to be signed in and for replying to a post, all you have to do is click the "reply" button at the top or bottom. If you want to start a new topic--go to "Forum Home" and click on a catergory that fits your subject and when that comes up hit "New Topic" as you have done. If you would like to include a photo, see the instructions in The New Volunteer Welcome Center.Posting photos on the forum: http://www.operationphotorescue.org/forum/index.php/topic,2002.0.html

Since Katrina, we have helped: Coffeyville, Ks; Winona, MN; Galveston, TX, Cedar Rapids, IA; Austell, GA. Now we will be getting ready for Nashville, TN. As you can see a lot has happened since Katrina.

Thank you very much for the information. I will follow Tori's instruction to get a photograph to work on. I guess I was confused because I didn't see anywhere to leave a comment.

WOW!! I'm also a returning member and I had also worked on the Katrina disaster. Things did change considerably, I was also a bit puzzled. I'm glad to be back as a volunteer, I won't be absent as long.  Thumbs up

Welcome back QQ!

If you want to pick photos to work there is no need to contact the distributors by email any more. The problems we have had with Photoshelter in June have been fixed.
You can leave comments in the Photoshelter gallery again, just like it was before.
