I signed up with Photo Rescue and shortly thereafter, my computer crashed bad, it got infected with several Trojans and after taking it to the "doc"; well, short story is I have to go and buy photoshop again, but I wanted to know if I'd need the video part of the program? I will be getting the program next week and can't wait to start my first photo.  Since the software is purchased either with or without the video premier package, I wanted to know if this is something that would be helpful.

Hi Linda,

Sorry to hear about your computer. Why do you have to buy PhotoShop again, was what you had on your computer not registered in your name? I will let someone else give more informationabout the video premier package, but I'm thinking that means coming with the Flash program. If that is the case, Flash is not the easiest program to learn. I took a semester course and thought it was hard. Since then it has become more user friendly, but it will still will not be easy and will take some behind the scenes studying. As far as being helpful, it would depend on what you are going to do.

Hi Linda,

Welcome to the forum!  to bad about your computer melt down, like Margie said, if you have a license you can download/install your Photoshop on your computer without having to buy it again.

About the Premiere Pro software that comes with CS4, unless you are into video editing or want to learn it in the future it isn't necessary to have it for what we do here.

Good luck with your first restore,

Welcome to OPR! The Premiere Pro software is for video editing. If you're interested in a Photoshop suite, Photoshop is sold separately or as part of a package with Illustrator (a vector drawing program) and InDesign (layout software), neither of which is needed here. If you still have your original installation disks for Photoshop you should be able to reinstall. When I switched to a new computer, I neglected to unintall my Adobe apps on the old computer before reinstalling on a different computer, which resulted in trouble registering my software (CS2). So I uninstalled my new installation, and then reinstalled it, and the registration worked fine. I think on the newer versions you may be allowed to install the same program on 2 computers.

If you've lost your installation disk, a cheaper way of purchasing Photoshop is to become a student to get whopping student discounts (but you'll have to start paying tuition and provide proof of being a student). Check out www.JourneyEd.com for info.

If Photoshop isn't in the picture right now, I've been keeping a list of photo editing software, some of which is free: Paintshop Pro X2, Photoshop Elements, Gimp (Photoshop clone), MS Picture It, Paint.net, Serif Software's Page Plus 6. Best wishes on getting up and running!
