I've been involved with photography since the 1960s. So I have an extensive negative and print past. I jumped on the digital bandwagon back in 2001. So I use Photoshop and Lightroom quite extensively.  In the most recent past I've restored photos for friends and family. This just seems just the right combination for me; the ability to contribute and help victims restore memories plus learn something about restoring damaged photos at the same time. And while I may not be at the level or speed of many here I'm hoping to contribute to the cause in my small way.

Hi Rich!

Welcome from Florida.

I'm glad you're with us and hope OPR is as rewarding for you as it has been for me.

Your reasons for joining OPR pretty much coincide with mine when I joined nearly 3 years ago.  I can tell you that OPR is the best thing I've done for myself – not only the joy in what we're doing for people who've lost so much to disasters but also the camaraderie among our wonderful global group of pixel-pushers and the Photoshop expertise gained while working on these monsters.

None of us was prepared for the level of damage on a lot of these photos, no matter how much restoration work we'd done before; however, your learning curve will soar when you start posting works in progress and getting feedback.  We know some wily tricks to overcome much of the damage, and we learn more every day.  So don't hesitate to "holler" for help if you run into a snag. Most of us old-timers have been there, done that, and have t-shirts!

Bless you for joining us!

Welcome Rich:

Greetings from sunny South Carolina where gravy is a beverage and the mosquito is the state bird.

Terrific group you've joined here; lots of challenges and remarkable learning opportunities.

Echoing GK's suggestion: don't be bashful about asking questions or polling the OPR folk for suggestions.  Help is always available.

I don't think that there's ever been a time in my life in which a tall glass of gravy was the only thing that would quench my thirst. I hope that I never experience that time.

I have, however, been stung by my share of SC mosquitos.

Welcome aboard Rich.

Thanks for the welcome.

I've been wandering through the FAQ, the handbook and a bunch of tips.

I'm awaiting the next upload of photos as most of the images I see are a bit beyond my expertise at this point.

Again thanks for the notes.

Rich,

Hang in there, after the copy run there will be a plenty of photos to choose from. Right now what is left is really difficult for any of us.

Keep checking in and there will be more news coming about the Galveston run.
