Here is the girl's brother. I am almost finished with the background, but his face is a problem. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I think that his face might be OK after some more work, but his hair is perplexing. I'm trying to imagine the hairline that low on his brow. Bangs maybe.

Thanks,
Pete

Hi Pete,

I'm still a newbie but it does kind of look like bangs to me. Sorry I can't be more help.

Hi Ian and welcome to the forum!!

I think Ian is right on the bangs.  Perhaps Margie can check for reference photos of this boy.  Other that that, I'd say he needs a bit more shading/burning of the hair.  You did a fabulous job on the corn.  I'm impressed!

Hi Ian, welcome to the Forum. Great job on the corn, bet that was fun. I found only one picture of the same kid and yes, it looks like he has bangs. Here is the photo, which I have cropped out the boy.

Hi Pete, looks like I just missed you. Sorry I addressed Ian, but not you and then treated the post like it was his photo. (I'm not drinking!  Cheesy) Sorry this is late coming to you, but I was out of town most of the day.

Welcome to the forum Ian!

Pete, that looks great!  I agree with the bangs and the burn/dodge suggestion that Chris made.  You can also use the smudge tool (small splatter brush or normal brush) and work from the forhead skin up into the hair in a few places to resamble the separate strands of hair. (that will soften the "helmet" style of the bangs)

 I love it!

Margie, the photo really helps! Thanks. But it poses another question. Does he have on glasses? For the life of me I can't make out any glasses in any channel, so I'm assuming not in this photo.
Thanks to all for the help.

I think he has glasses on...but since they are the wire rim, or more like clear rim, it's not very noticeable.

I also seem to see clear rimmed glasses in the original photo but if I didn't know the boy wears glasses I wouldn't have noticed them.

Yes, I think he is wearing glasses in the photo. If you take that photo and do a High Pass filter on it and then change the mode to Soft Light, it will bring out more detail. Like Chris and Hannie said with it being wire rims, it is not noticeable. What I think I am see seeing is a small square (at the top) on each side where the side pieces connect with the eye glass part.

He is wearing a pair of glasses.  Gold rim.  This is an example:

I would also soften the upper edge of his hair and roughen slightly the border between his hair and the corn and get rid of that little bit of white.  That will make it a little more natural and less of helmet hair and will make the boy's head work a little better in the same space as the corn.

Here's where I'm at with this guy. I think he has helmet hair and the color and texture of his face is off.
Any comments welcome.

Thanks,

Hi Pete,

I think the boy has a little more hair, I used the original photo as a layer to redefine the hairline on top of his head.  The skin color is good, just some burn on his forehead and a little smoothing out.

Great job!
