Hey everyone,

I just wanted to drop a quick line and let you all know that I'm still here. Just when you think life gets busy enough with the introduction of a new baby it finds a way to get even busier.

I was recently promoted at work. I'm now the director of photography for The Free Lance-Star. The FLS is the newspaper that really backed OPR financially in the beginning. While I'm really happy with my new position, it's another dramatic life change for me.

Because of the economy and the overall financial well-being of the newspaper industry, I find myself running a department that's been reduced from full strength. For example, while I've been promoted, I'm still doing my old work as well.

I've also been asked to help rebuild our struggling state photojournalism organization.

I'm by no means complaining. Rather, I'm just explaining my recent invisibility.

I'm still working behind the scenes. Mostly processing new volunteers. We're still getting around 5 or so each week. According to the count on Photoshelter, I've just added the 1,400th volunteer.

So that's pretty much what's going on. Angela and the boys are doing well. Jack has been a great big brother to Shane. Shane's doing a fairly good job of letting Angela and I get a decent amount of sleep so that we can get through the day.

You might not see many postings from me, but I'm checking the forums almost daily. I hope everyone is doing well and thanks again for keeping OPR running.

Congratulations on your promotion Dave!
You will not be bored on the short term anyways, sounds like a challenging job.
Great to hear that you and your family are all doing well. (and even getting enough sleep!)
It is good to know that there are still people signing up with OPR, we can always use some more.  I've been busy recruiting over here but most folks are already involved in other things that keep them busy.  Oh well, it doesn't hurt trying!

 I love it!

Thanks for the update Dave.  It sounds like life is keeping you on your toes!  In your free time  Wink  you should upload some current pics of Shane.  We'd love to see him!

Hearty congratulations, Dave.  I've gotten the impression that you love your work, and being given an even more challenging position seems to me to be right up your alley!  I'm glad for you.  I want good things to come to you, Angela and the boys - always.

I'm with the rest of the troop in that I'd love to see more photos of the little guys.  You have such a lovely family.

I suspected that even though you've been rather quiet that you monitor the forum regularly.  How could you let go of your "baby?"  It's awesome that we have so many volunteers.  I feel optimistic thinking about your starting OPR and how far we've come since I joined (I'm not the first member, but come pretty close). The forum gets better and better as we old-timers welcome all the wonderful newbies who have become participants.  OPR is a passion, and it gives so much meaning to my life.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!

You're always in my thoughts even when you're not posting and I wish you much success in your new position.

Bless,

Glenna

Nice job, Dave!  I'm assuming this will inherently provide a little more exposure on the AP wire? Wink
